Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.
Philippine passport holders are required Schengen visa to visit one or more of the states in the Schengen Region in Europe. This visa is valid in all Schengen states for a stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period for a visit, tourism or business. It is not valid for employment.
Schengen Region
The Schengen area consists of the ff countries
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, the Czech Republic.
As of 2014, valid Schengen visa (type: double or multiple entry), who have already entered the Schengen area, may travel to the following without additional visa and may stay for period equal to the remainder of the time for which the Schengen visa is valid.
– Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Romania
Philippine passport holders are required Schengen visa to visit one or more of these Member States. This visa is valid in all Schengen states for a stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period for a visit, tourism or business. It is not valid for employment.
When to apply for Schengen Visa?
Applications can be made earliest three (3) months before the planned entry.
How much is Schengen Visa?
The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend? Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them. These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

HI,
I just want to ask what are all the requirements that i need to apply for Multiple tourist visa in Spain or any other countries in Europe?
I have a BF and he is from USA and he is the one who will sponsor all the expenses needed from our trip. We traveled before but only here in some of our Asian countries. Since its not really easy to get a SCHENGEN VISA i just want some opinion from you guys.
helo..denied po ako sa french embassy para sa schengen visa..pede po ba mg-apply ulit agad agad..o after a month or week pede ulit mag-apply..
u can request for reconsideration if you have more solid document to present after you are denied. otherwise i think you need 6 months to reapply.
“If your Schengen visa application got rejected, you would have to reapply for your visa and pay the embassy fee again. Though you can reapply for a Schengen visa any time after the refusal, the first thing to do is to find out why the visa was not approved. Otherwise your Schengen visa application will be rejected again..” nakita ko lng itong articlce na ito pede nmn daw apply anytime after refusal…
Hello wanderlass,
I was refused as stated X marked on paragraph
“9: Your intention to leave the territory of the member states before the expiry of the visa could not be ascertained””
My cover letter stated 15 days stay at France from Jan.18-Feb 03, 2013. And my sponsor invitation letter stated the assurance of my return in the philippines after 15 days vist. But why refused?
Please help me and give me some advise, what to do, where to make an appeal? what documents to file, to where and when? as written recevied on refusal form , that may appeal against the decision to refuse at Nantes Cedex within 2months from the date of the present notification, should i start and do it afterwards? Am i the one to make an appeal or my sponsor?
My christmas was so sad :( for what i received today.
Hope you enlighten me about this matter.
Appreciate your help on above matter.
Thanks and best rgds,
ELA
Hi Ella, Sorry to heard about the result of your visa we had the same situation…
I had the same result of my visa Application and both situation actually my sponsor is my BF and he even has a company business and has a house where i am going to visit for 16days for holidays and I even got my title of my property and with his attestation de accueil and the rest of his documents and the invitation and guarantee letter, but still my visa application it’s been refused. I asked kindly questions with the lady french nationality i asked her why my visa have been refused and if she can tell me what is wrong with my visa application if she can tell me the right thing to do and if i can re apply again for my visa application she answered me kindly some information, she can not tell me why my visa been refused because she said she just checking the documents but she is not the one who makes the decision. about if the visa if will be granted or refused. but she told me I can re apply again or if we want to know why my visa had been refused we need to make an appeal. she also advised me if i will going to used the same documents like i was had submitted it will be the same rejection again and again… i think they do not like too much documents but to follow what it’s on their site or satisfied it. i admitted that i made some mistakes as well but right now we will going to re apply again after 1 month of my visa had been refused. i just refresh all my documents again. we are sad as well my bf and his parents wanted me to spend holidays with them but so sad for my xmas dreams to have a white xmas :( it’s alright we will give another shots for 2nd time i just made an appointment today…wish me luck my bf he is with me anyway for holidays was hoping also that he can go and he’ll be with me through all the embassy but there’s no schedules for the days he is here so Sad. but i am positve if it meant to be it meant to be. may be there is the reasons why we can not make the trips..:( cheers and Merry xmas to all and God bless may we got the wishes we wanted this xmas…
Good luchk to all of us…
Dafuq did I just read? O_O
touche :D
Probably the reason behind the refusal

Hello there Wanderlass, this site is just like the wikipedia for schengen entry!… i still have a question though. We are a family of three travelling to Italy this February 2013 for 10 days – when I talked to our potential travel insurance provider, they told me to check with the embassy if an additional 15 days is required on top of the traval period (which is 10 days) … I wonder if you have any idea on that regard. Many thanks.
Hi ALL,
You may get your travel insurance here. It’s fast, easy and online. All you need is a credit card. I just came back from France and used the travel insurance from this website when I applied for my Schengen visa.

wanderlass, thanks for this information. I had my interview just last dec.4 and i was interviewed by the filipina from window one. she looks like the korean chubby girl with bangs. there were only 2 consuls, im just wondering, why didnt they get my strong proofs of coming back? i have supporting documents from my parents such as bank statements and business. school certificate since i am a student but she didnt even take the insurance certificate, the school certificate, the land titles and even proof that i have my internship next year in the US :| Im just worried that if the consul himself is the one that sees it, maybe he wont think ill come back. Im 20 years old studying in an international school, i provided good records from school and i also have someone to sponsor me there.
Im just a bit puzzled that she didnt take the other things i have brought. even the itinerary! :| she only asked me for the business, affidavit of support, bank certificate and attestation of my sponsor. Do you think that would be enough? kahit hindi niya knuha ung ibang papers na malakas ung proof na talagang babalik ako?
Hi reese,
Where is your passport then? did they get your passport? do you pay visa fee? how much? how many person you talk at the embassy? tnx
they took my passport :) i paid about 3160 pesos for a short term visa
i talked 2 people inside the embassy :) the one that collects the money and the interviewer :)
Did they advise you when to get your passport back? hope they gave you a reciept stated a date to claim your passport… tnx..
hi ela :) yeah they told me to come back on the 13th and also they stated a date to claim it. does that mean anything?
i was told that whether u get ur visa or not… you’ll only find out on the same day you’ll claim your passport back

i applied for multiple visa and they have given me that
Hi Asiaflip/Resse and Wanderlass,
I was refused, they gave me a notification de refus d’un visa/refusal of a visa form and they let me signed it as : stated X marked on paragraph
“9: Your intention to leave the territory of the member states before the expiry of the visa could not be ascertained””
How it happens i dont have my visa approved yet? my leave of absence schedule at my ofc is Jan 18-Feb 3, 2013 and my round trip confirmation ticket is Jan 18, 2013 – Feb 03, 2013, same with my travel insurancel, stated also in my cover letter as my sponsor stated on his invitation that he will assure of my return here in the philippines.
Please help me and give me some advise, what to do, where to make an appeal? what documents to file, to where and when? as written in recevied refusal form “within 2months of notification”, should i start and do it afterwards?
My christmas was so sad :( for what i received today.
Hope you enlighten me about this matter.
Appreciate your help on above matter.

hi ela, im so sorry to hear about that.. did you ask the consul why did they refuse the visa approval? the consul can somewhat answer it no? and im pretty sure you can appeal i just dont know what are the procedure.. i hope somebody can help you with it. btw were your documents complete especially from your host’s end??
hi reese i got the multiple visa
Asianflip
Well I was issued a single entry visa. I know that if I go out the schengen meaning example I go to UK my visa will be invalid. But can I still come back to the previous schengen country I’ve been to? Besides I didn’t leave the schengen territory. Like France – Prague – France.
Ela,
Oh I’m so sorry to hear about your refusal, you should’ve asked for an advise with the one who interviewed you why was your visa refused.
It’s very strange you got refused. You have your complete documents that shouldn’t be a problem, the itinerary that I presented was even just a dummy and yours were confirmed :-/ who interviewed you? I think it’s best to ask. And also tell your friend about your refusal that maybe he or she can contact the embassy here in Manila.
hi reese, if you have single entry visa you can only use the visa once. if youll go to UK(not a schengen state) you cannot go back to any schengen states unless youll get a new visa. but if you leave france and travel to other schengen states such as germany, italy, netherlands spain etc (check the countries that belong to schengen states) they wont check your passport coz theres no border checks anymore. hope this helps :)
hi ella did u appeal yet? how was your france trip reese?
Hi Ela,
Sad Christmas nga para sa yo. yan. If you can supply additional documents to prove that you will return on the end of your trip, then make an appeal. Visiting France is worth the hassle. Im here in Cote D’Azur part of France-sobrang dami ng pinoy, and the french embassy has every reason to restrict our entry because of many pinoy illegals here. Sabi ng ibang pinoy, the embassy is even lax in giving the visa, maybe because they need more tourist because of the economic crisis in EU. I even get my visa in just 3 days.
Next week I will be in Paris, This will be the end of my trip. Sayang 1 month lang ang validity of each stay ko although its a multiple entry visa. Next time na lang ulet, sana makatapak man lang sa Barcelona :-). Good luck. Direct all your query to the embassy, Reese is correct, ask your sponsor to contact the embassy what are needed to make an appeal. Good luck ulet
hi wonderlass,
first thank you for this very informative blog that you made. anyways, i am one of those who are not lucky to get visa. i apply last november 6 and received my refusal letter november 26 stating;
1. You have not provided proof of sufficient means of subsistence, for the duration of the intended stay or for the return to the country origin or residence, or for the transit to a third country into which you are certain to be admitted, or you are not in a position to acquire such means lawfully;
2. The information submitted regarding the justification for the purpose and conditions of the intended stay was not reliable;
3. Your intension to leave the territory of the Member States before the expiry of the visa could not be ascertained.
i email the embassy november 28 asking for appeal. december 3, i received a call from italian embassy (filipina voice) saying they received my email and i can send my new document thru email BUT she said “if you refuse again there is a consequence you will be BAN in all schengen countries” when i hear it my whole body was shaking and totally blank. WHY do they ban me? i did not done any wrong and i have good intension. now i have completed all my papers (invitation letter, new forms, new COE and flight details) but i am so so scared to submit because of the consequences. please enlighten me i need your advise i know your the expert on this matter. thank you very much and i appreciate your inputs. God Bless!
I think the girl was just power tripping. I don’t think you will be banned just because you failed to submit sufficient documents. However you will need to wait 6 months to apply again if your appeal is not successful.
Basically the refusal letter states that they believe your intension to go to Italy is not to be a tourist but to find work and illegally stay there. So produce evidences that would prove otherwise.
Hi Wanderlass,
I was refused as stated X marked on paragraph
“9: Your intention to leave the territory of the member states before the expiry of the visa could not be ascertained””
Please help me and give me some advise, what to do, where to make an appeal? what documents to file, to where and when? as written recevied on refusal form , that may appeal against the decision to refuse at Nantex Cedex within 2months from the date of the present notification”, should i start and do it afterwards? Am i the one will make an appeal or my sponsor?
My christmas was so sad :( for what i received today.

Same with me..i got denied on my visa to germany, same reason u have…..i pass my appeal letter of my fiance with my authorization last dec,18 but still now waiting for german embassy call or whatever about our appeal…. where country u will go supposedly Ella?
Hi Scar,
Any result on your letter of appeal at germany? Iam visiting my friend at france.
I think Wanderlass is correct, just re-submit your application if you are certain that you have a document/s that will clear the doubt on the reasons why your first application was rejected. Tinatakot ka lang nun. I think that pinay is just an outbound call center agent and doesn’t know any laws on Italian immigration laws. It happened to me. I have to ask a travel agency to reschedule my appointment to French Embassy because I was in overseas, and the hotline number is not accessible from overseas. On first rescheduling, they allow. On the second rescheduling, di na pumayag. After, so many calls wasted and pleading, they allow to move the date of my appointment, after the ttravel agent almost spent more than a thousand on telephone calls. Good luck on your application.
hi wanderlass and joe,
thank you for your advices, at least i am relieve now. i have other question? what if i will not continue my appeal and just apply for new visa. because my italian boyfriend will just sponsor me.. is that possible? i hope to hear from you again. God bless!
I filled my visa application on Nov. 26. My papers was submitted to window 2 to to a pinoy guy. He just checked my papers, then after 1 or 2 minutes called in Window 4, I was Interviewed by the French lady in window 4, asking me the purpose of the trip, who will finance me and what are my job etc. Then collected my finger prints and snap my photo. The interview was very quick, finished in less than 5 minutes and the lady was very cordial. She asked me when I will be leaving, I said it will be on Dec. 2, then she handed me a paper with Nov. 29 date and 12:30 as time on window 4. The application process was finished in less than 15- 20 minutes. On Nov. 29, I collected my visa, queue in Window 2, then pinagalitan pa ako ng pinoy guy and telling me to look on my claim stub. Waited my seat, then after 5 mins. hear my name on Window 4, the French lady is the ussual very cordial ask me if there is an error on my visa- I said none, then she wished me a “happy trip”. It was surreal, I got my visa in 3 days, multiple entry in First application., fly to France by Cote d’ Azur airport. The immigration clearance was very simple, no custom declaration, no immigration card to fill up. When I presented my visa, the immigration officer asked me to put my right thumb on the scanner, then confirmed that my visa and I was the same person, stamped my passport then allow me to enter. Bienvenue France…… It was Sunday, I ask the lady in the Bus station if there is a trip to Monaco. Then tell me to board to bus 110, then transfer to another bus once when I am in Monaco, since my Hotel was book in French side. Once alighted in Bus in Monaco bus stop, in front of Monte Carlo Casino (Golden Eye movie was film here), I was shocked to see many fellow pinoys. Kahit saan ka tumingin pulos pinoy ang makikita mo. In the malls, in the bus, in the station in the street. Whoa, I feel I am in Singapore. And the common question asked by the filipinos here are — ” San bahay ka ba or sa yate?” Nagsisi ako, I bought Victorinox Watch in Dubai and shocked to find out that swiss watch is much cheaper in Monaco. Anyway, I am enjoying my stay in Monaco. Nice to be in France. Goodluck to all Schengen Visa applicants. I hope, our immigration people will try to visit outside our country, so they can gauge how sucks they are.
