Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.
Philippine passport holders are required Schengen visa to visit one or more of the states in the Schengen Region in Europe. This visa is valid in all Schengen states for a stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period for a visit, tourism or business. It is not valid for employment.

The Schengen area consists of the ff countries
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, the Czech Republic.
As of 2014, valid Schengen visa (type: double or multiple entry), who have already entered the Schengen area, may travel to the following without additional visa and may stay for period equal to the remainder of the time for which the Schengen visa is valid.
– Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Romania
Philippine passport holders are required Schengen visa to visit one or more of these Member States. This visa is valid in all Schengen states for a stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period for a visit, tourism or business. It is not valid for employment.
When to apply for Schengen Visa?
Applications can be made earliest three (3) months before the planned entry.
How much is Schengen Visa?
The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend? Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them. These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

And i just got my invitation and i have my sponsor what should i bring to prove to embassy that my sponspor will pay everything except the flight and what should i do to not get denied? because i have stop my school i’m really scared to be denied please help me.
Hi guys just wanna share my experience in applying for a Schengen Visa going to France, this will just be a brief but I think It will help you a lot on how you can get your visa approved, I started browsing the blogs of other people’s experiences regarding applying schengen visa at the French Embassy, first is you should have an appointment for your visa interview, collect all the documents needed which is at the website of French Embassy, Get a travel insurance for the coverage of the trip, it’s really important that all the dates are aligned to specific start date, for example your insurance will start from October 3, 2013 to November 3, 2013 your Confirmed itinerary ticket should also be starting on the same day which is October 3, 2013, because those are also the dates that you will put on your application form which will be the basis of the start date of your visa if your visa will be approved! it is also important to have a Cover letter addressed to the consulate officer there is a format that I found from one of the bloggers which I just edited to fit my application, and it is also important that if you have still or been given visas from other countries you should have a photocopy of them together with your application, I really do feel that if you are a frequent traveler you will be given a visa, here’s the summary of my application, collected all the documents needed:
• Application Form
• Cover Letter (Your Cover Letter will explain your day to day itinerary while you are in the Schengen Area, but in my Case I just wrote there that we will just be staying in France, and the People I’ll be with for the duration of the visit, my Mom is in UK and a UK resident, and together with my Step Father which is a British, In my case I’m travelling with my Family but they are based in UK so I provided the embassy a Copy of their Passports. To justify that I’m really travelling with them. (It is really important that I you think a document will help you convince the consular officer that is not written in the website feel free to bring it. Where in my case I just have 6000 pesos on my bank account when my visa was approved it is because I submitted a copy of 6mos Bank Statement of my Step Father in UK, and just a Letter of Invitation.)
• Employment Certificate
• Copy of my Visas ( Multiple Entry Visa From UK and a previous Residence Visa from Kuwait) I have previously travelled from UK prior from applying for my Schengen visa, So it’s really a big factor If you have travelled outside of Philippines
• Approved Leave of Absence if you are employed, in the event that you’re not its fine.
• Bank Certification – The Bank Cert that I got is my Payroll Account so the embassy will know if you are really employed, (but if they will see that you’ve previously travelled having a stable job here in Philippines is no longer a turning point for your visa to get approved especially if you have a valid US visa. Coz they would know you will still come back here in your mother country.)
• Letter of Invitation – This is if there will be someone who will sponsor your trip it doesn’t matter if the person who will sponsor you is in France for as long the Residency of that person falls under the EU countries or EEA, (My letter of invitation is from my step father which is in UK it was written in my invitation letter that he will pay everything for my trip including airfare, and attached to it is the Copy of his Passport and Bank Statement to prove that he/she really has the funds or means of supporting you.
• Copy of Marriage Contract – Of my Step Father and Mother to show my relationship from the person who will sponsor my trip.
• Hotel Voucher – Guys!! This is just a Confirmed Reservation, My agency didn’t charge me or this one, you just have to have a Credit Card to have it reserved, after the visa was approved if you don’t wanna go to that hotel its fine, cancel it and find a cheaper hotel.
• Plane Ticket – This is also just a itinerary no need to purchase it, coz even the embassy is not requiring you to get the ticket prior to visa approval, you can get this from a travel agency, they call it ticket booking. its as if it’s the real ticket but its not.
• Travel Insurance – My travel insurance is from Chartis Manila, cost me 3000+ pesos, but there is a cheaper one, the girl applicant in the embassy said that her insurance is from Malayan Bank? Or RCBC, I’m not just so sure, but there is a cheaper one which will just cost you 1500 pesos,
–guys have all of your documents photocopied, coz they will just get the photocopied ones. So 1 set Original and 1 Set Photocopies
-Just have your documents complete and you’ll have it!!!
-at the day of the interview I arrived and Embassy, 30mins before the scheduled time, I went to the basement parking to get the ID going to the 16th flr, then get a number from the guard as you surrender your phone, then your number will be called, you will go to that window and that person will check if you have the complete set of documents needed. And pay for the Application Fee which is 3,490 pesos. Then your number will be called again for the interview, they will ask you the 1 set of photocopies and you’ll be left with the originals then they will just verify the things you’ve written on the application form. And then they will give you a quittance slip, it’s like a claim stub to claim your passport, Applying or a Schengen Visa is running around how your papers will be presented in the eyes of the consulate officer, and documentation of every detail is really needed. When I came back to claim my Passport I was so Happy to Find the Visa Stamped on it
The name of the travel agency who gave me the itinerary, hotel and Insurance is ASIA INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL, they are located in Salcedo Village Makati 8124464
Hi Francis, thank you for sharing your experience in applying for your Shengen visa. I’ve learned a lot from you and you inspired me to travel to France. May i ask how much did you pay to your travel agency for their assistance?
Hi Crissy, they just ask me like 400 pesos or my itinerary (ticket) and Hotel Voucher, its from Hilton Hotel CDG, then I got my travel insurance from them, they are affiliated from Chartis, its 3100 pesos, but there is a cheaper one I got the idea from the student I met at the embassy applying or her visa to visit her exchanged students friends who are going there for sem break, its from Malayan Bank its just 1500 she said. Crissy it is better to read and don’t ask an assistance from the agency, but you can get the required documents from the agency, coz they will just do the same to gather your documents and ask you to submit them on your interview, whenever you process a visa its better if you do it yourself coz by the next time you will apply for another visa going to another country you will know what to submit and how to do it, message me when your decided I can guide you and send you the format of the cover letter and etc on your email. I wish you the best crissy. I can also teach you on how to get the cheapest ticket once your visa is Approved! :)

My problem is, i am currently employed and my contract will end on dec..My travel will be on jan- march….What will i fill on the form (*Current position)?…Do i have to tell that i am currently employed?..I am sure that i couldn’t have my leave of absence because my contract already ends…Would there be a chance that my application get approved without the approved leave of absence and bank certificate?

Hi Francis!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m planning to visit Santorini in September so as early as now, i’m researching. Do you have any idea how much should be your money in the bank when you apply for the Visa?
Thanks,
TheDarkerLemon
Hi Francis and everyone,
Thanks for sharing your experience. I was granted 3 Schengen visas already.( 2 from Netherlands and 1 from France). My latest trip was sponsored. Duringthe interview at the French embassy, the lady asked a few questions while carefully looking at all the photocopied documents I submittted page by page. Then she asked me if I have a bank account on my own. Fortunately, I brought my original BPI and BDO passbooks, handed it to her who again, looked at the transactions in every page and requested photocopies of it. I hurriedly went to a convenience store downstairs and submitted it in a few minutes…. I plan to go to Scandinavian countries and again will apply for Schengen visa via Denmark embassy. Will prepare required similar documents ….

Hi Francis and wanderlass, I was also wondering about dun sa cover letter if meron ba nun format sa web nila?
Hi Francis, your shared experience gave me such a relief coz I’m planning to get a Schengen Visa by next year. I already looked into the requirements and they are doable, but I have 2 items that I’m concerned about. (1) Do they have a certain bracket in the salary to get approved? I make a little over the minimum wage, and I have enough to support my trip, but still this worries me.
(2) I’m visiting my boyfriend, and won’t require him to sponsor me, but I will be living with him for the duration of my stay. Do I still need to get his financial documents?
I do have a U.S Visa, and have travelled there twice, and have travelled to other asian countries before. Does having all this really give me a big chance on getting approved? I guess I just needed more certianty on this matter.
I would appreciate any additional information you can give me regarding my concerns. Thanks a lot, and enjoy your future travels.
I will be traveling to France this coming year and I’ll apply a Schengen visa. I just want to know how much did you pay for your agency?
Thanx a lot..By the way I’m a Ladyboy and my boyfriend is french, we traveled a lot, we’ve been to Hongkong,Macau,China, Laos,Vietnam,Cambodia, Myanmar and Bangkok. I got 2 visas applied China and Myanmar, this coming January we’ll visit Indonesia. I learned a lot from your experience.
hi…francis…thank you for sharing your experience.i want to visit my boyfriend in france can you teach me how the format of the cover letter.

Single entry visa ang inaapply ko. Pwede bang pumunta directly sa dutch embassy for appointment? Anung araw at oras po tumatanggap? Thank po!
Hi jen, musta? How was your interview at Dutch Embassy? I have an appointment to the Dutch Embassy on March 26, Ive booked it thru VFS Global and got the appointment letter. Just wanna ask questions how was the interview like? I have a sponsor, a dutch BF. hello wanderlass. I badly need your help :( ..I want to ask your opinion my question. I am wondering if I would have immigration problem if my attestation is different from my purchased ticket. The attestation would cover oct 13-nov 2, 2013. I have been granted 25 days stay in france. The duration is oct 13-nov 22, 2013. The ticket is very expensive if we stick to the dates mentioned in attestation (oct 13-nov 2). So we decided to take the cheaper ticket which is oct 13-nov 6 and would give me more time to stay in France. Nov 3-nov 6 is not stated in the attestation. Do you think it would be a problem when I am at the airport? They would ask my proof of accomodation?I am really anxious to know if it would be a problem when I leave Philippines. We are not sure if we have to get another attestation for nov 3-nov 6. Or is it better if I would have booking confirmation in a hotel covering nov 3-nov 6? Do you think immigration will not question that if we just book a ticket in a hotel? I’m looking forward to your response to shed light on this mind boggling situation of mine. Thank you in advance. :)
Hello all! I’m a 19 year old student and I’m planning to fly to Paris alone to visit a friend and stay with her in her place there for 2 weeks. Is this feasible? Do I actually have a chance of getting my visa approved? :(

Hi! Would like to inquire how you were able to present accommodation confirmation if you dont have a fixed itinerary? Many thanks!!!
Hello Wanderlass!
Your blog is informative thank you very much. But there’s a point I missed. My bf will be my sponsor, regarding the “Invitation letter addressed to embassy”. Is this an original document or can it be printed from email? Also with proof of identity (passport) and his bank statements, should he send me originals or can it be scanned and I’ll just print it?
Thank you for your response.
For the bank statement and other legal document (passport etc), you can just print copies. Invitation letter to embassy I have never encountered this. Attestation d’accueil is something he should apply from the city hall.
