Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.

The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend?  Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them.  These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

Hello, I’m Don, a 28 yr old guy who studied and working in France at the moment. Me and my girl friend, recently applied for a Schengen Visa from the French Embassy which was rejected. And like most of them here, it was reason 9. We provided all the documents necessary, attestation d’acceuil(this was provided by my friend since i’m living in a colocation), my ids, and i was the sponsor for my girl friend and i provided my salary statement, ITR, recent bank certification of around 13000€, and my last three months of transaction too. And on per part, just as a backup, she submitted a bank certification(120k PHP) and also the assesment of her property, she had a round trip ticket, an insurance that we took from AXA and also a well written cover letter, and sponsorship letter in french explaining why she wanted to come here.
The interview went fairly well except one question the name of the school i studied here in France for the interviewer replied my gf did not know me well. Come on, the name of the school is not a creteria to check if we are really a couple:( we never talked about the name of my school as the name never really came into our topics:(
But my girl friend says the rejection may be due to the fact that the invitation and sponsor letter are different. I’m planning to write a letter to the embassy asking them the reason for rejection clearly. We assured them my gf’s return since she has kids already and she will return to take care of them. I’m so so disappointed the way they evaluate the applications and im really really sad.
Will my letter to the embassy change anything? I do not want to contact Nantes since it takes 2 months. Some please advice me:(
…ask ko lang pag nadenied k sa isang schengen embassy, is there a chance to apply it again to others schengen embassy? I mean if denied k sa belgian then gusto mo ulit mag apply to switzerland..thx
Hi Sahlee, likely they will also denied. What you can do is to ask the embassy the reason for rejection, I think you are entitled to appeal. You can apply to Switzerland since its non member of EU, but I believe it will not entitle you to enter EU states.
hello! can i ask what all the papers do i need for applying a SCHENGEN visa, im a filipino and my boyfriend is a german national he’s going to sponsor all my papers and financial he like to invite me to go in germany only for 3 months stay with him!! plssss anyone can tell me!? do really need help!!!
check the website of the embassy and requirements, then provide all the requirements they ask on the site..if u meet the requirements, and if u think u have no problem with ur requirements, it will be approved.
hi! Im Tin, I just want to ask pag nag pa schedule ka ng interview mga gano ka katagal mag hihintay sa interview? thanks!
re: bank certificates — do we still need to provide bank certificates or could we just show our time deposit certificates? thank you in advance!
hello again!
with our experience, we submitted bank certificates and credit card statement of account. however, if you have time deposit certificates and bank certificates, maybe it’ll be better.enjoy!
u better present a bank cert..(all your savings, time deposit, and any account will reflect on bank cert.)
First of all, thanks so much, Wanderlass. Despite the fact that I no longer live in the Philippines and have been living in Brazil for quite so long, your input was quite helpful when I applied for the Schengen visa. I’d prepared everything that was listed, yet on the day of the interview the only things they asked were the passport, a picture, birth certificate, proof of income, paid round trip ticket, hotel reservations, and travel insurance (a must). Perhaps it depends on where you’re gonna apply. So come July I’ll be going the rounds in Europe for a month for a much needed vacation. Again, my deepest gratitude.
Hi,
im applying for Schengen visa also, planning of staying in Germany this Aug 2013. Do i need to complete first all the requirments before setting an appointment to German Embassy? My German bf will be shouldering all the expenses, does Formal Obligation is enough or we still need to provide his bank statement, ITR, COE or anything more is needed from him? We only have June – July preparation, is ist still possible to have it approved for AUg travel? thanks much!
hello.. i would also like to ask some help and opinion, i read the thread but all of the applicants for the visa will have the Philippines as point of origin. We are planning a trip for our mom, however she will be staying first in UK then after several months she will go to Italy, Rome and Paris to visit some relatives. if this is the case, we still need to apply the visa here in the Philippines? but the schengen visa is only for 90days right? what should we do best if she will go to UK by January or February then go to Italy by June?
Hi! I went to get my tourist VISA interview done at the German Embassy this morning. Everything went great, my documents were complete and they told me to expect my passport back in 3-5 days.
My only concern now is, I have a host (Hostelling International Germany) for my 10 day trip to Germany, but I extended 7 days to visit Amsterdam and Paris, I included this in my itinerary for the application. I have a hostel booking for Amsterdam but for Paris, I asked if I could stay with my tito (family friend working and living in Paris) and he said yes, so I just put down all his contact details and address in Paris. Would this be sufficient? Or do I actually need a letter of invitation from him? I have a notarized letter of support from my parents anyway stating they will cover all travel funds from Amsterdam to Paris (Having finished my studies in April and graduating this July, I am unemployed. Dont worry, I gave them a 6 month bank statement of my parents, plus my own bank statement with the sum of at least 100k, showing that as my funds for the trip)
I’m nervous that this little detail (no invitation from my Tito) will jeopardize my chances! Any thoughts/opinions? I need a peace of mind…
Thanks :)
Hi, I just want to ask about obtaining Schengen visa? I have a friend kase na nag-invite sakin and I already have the invitation with me together with the travel insurance that he bought for me. hi andrew!
just an advice, it is best to ask help from a reliable travel agency. you can try travel warehouse and kindly look to ms. andrea. she was the one who helped us in processing our schengen visa. thanks!happy trip!
yes, make an appointment with the embassy, and be sure you have all the requirements on hand on ur appointment date and have it all photocopied.. it is good to apply directly yourself ,,no need for travel agency,,they always have very high mark-up price..
