Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.

What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend?  Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them.  These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

Hello wanderlass, your blog is helpful but please check the specs of photo required for the visa, I counterchecked it with the French Embassy website it states that it should be taken against a white background not light grey or cream, in addition the head size should be 25mm, the rest of what you have written are all correct except to the photo background, I am opted to write this coz i am quite impressed with you and im sure others are too, they may rely on it and ended lacking requirement and may likely be denied. Thanks much

Hi, I have a French visa which is valid until May 21 but the thing is I wasn’t able to leave for France for some reason and I actually decided to go on June, my question is can I ask for my visa’s validity to be extended or do I have to apply for a new one?
My guess is you have to apply again. But I would call or write them to ask to be sure.
Thank you very much ^_^

Hi wanderlass!
How are you? I had my interview last Wednesday March 26, 2014 at the Dutch Embassy and when my lastname was called from counter 1, a filipino, I went to the counter ahead and handed her over all the original documents. She then checked all my docs 1 by 1 and attached my pic to like a 1/4 of a thick bondpaper it was like a postcard, and I saw there was like a visa number at the bottom part. She also stamped my passport and She then took my fingerprints and followed by asking questions.. The interview went fine and she was nice and kind. I was told that they will forward my documents to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for processing. I did not understand as to why they have to send my documents to Malaysia? For what she said processing, is it the visa already that they will process in Malaysia? I was told to wait within 2 weeks for my passport and it will be sent thru LBC/2GO. The waiting game is really stressful and Im not even sure yet if I was given a visa or not but Im positive I will be given a visa. What do you think wanderlass?
Your quick response is highly appreciated.
Thank you so much.
Hi mcknight. Have you received a reply from dutch embassy about your visa application. I am also planning to visit holland on August but then i am a bit hesitant with my sponsor letter kasi nakalagay dun 30 days stay sa holland but the truth is i will only stay for 3weeks kasi yun nakalagay sa approve vacation leave ko. Do you think makaka apekto yun para maapprove visa ko? Hope to hear a response. Thank you
Hi Mcknight, hope you can read this but i just want to ask kung ano naging result ng interview mo? And in how many days they process the result of your visa starting from passing application and all the documents. Mag aapply din kasi ako by next month, i just want to have an idea kung okay lang ba tlga and di mahirap magapply dun :-) thanks! Sana maishare mo skin experience mo hehehe!
Hi McKnight. were you approved? how many days processing?
thanks!

Hello Wanderlass,
Anong Travel Agency po ba ang mag assist ng mga Airline Ticket Reservation…Makati area lang, and How much it cost?
Hello!
I have a few questions I hope you can help me.
1. What is the standard validity period of a Schengen tourist visa?
2. Is it possible to get a tourist visa valid for 1 year (or more)?
3. I don’t have plans of going to Europe anytime soon but I am hoping to do it this year. I read that you can only apply 3 months prior to the intended date of departure. What if my intended date is more that 3 months away?
4. Can you get a refund on the travel insurance if you get denied?
The reason why I am asking is because I have been traveling for 1 year and 2 months (S.E.A. and now in Africa). I work online and just bring my work wherever I go. I will only be home for 1 month in May so I need to have everything ready and even call to schedule an interview before coming home so I have everything set. I was planning to apply for the visa while I was in Kenya last month and go to Europe but unfortunately, I am only allowed to apply from Kenya if I am a resident.
I am taking advantage of the one month stay in PH this coming May to get the Schengen Visa. But the problem is, we are going to Canada(waiting for visa results) in June and maybe Mexico after that. Which I need to apply for, too when I get home. No definite dates because we really don’t plan way ahead.
Anyway, I’m hoping you have some information on my questions.
All the best!
