Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.

Applications can be made earliest three (3) months before the planned entry.
How much is Schengen Visa?Â
The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend?  Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them.  These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

Hello Wanderlass,
I want to ask some advice because I’m planning to get schengen visa to visit my boyfriend in Sweden. I don’t have any bank accounts and job yet. We tackled and agreed about these things and that he will cover all of my expenses during my stay there. He’s been here in Philippines last month to visit and see me and my family for a couple of weeks. And so we planned to get a visa for me so I could visit his place also and Im going to stay with him in his house in sweden when I get there.Do I have any other option to have Fiance visa. Cause we’re planning to get a fiance visa if possible. Isn’t it? I hope so. I was wondering If there are any rules getting fiance visa or any changes of the requirements to get schengen (fiance) visa? I only have my Passport and Authenticated Birth Certificate from NSO and he (my boyfriend) will just send his statement of bank account and the Invitation letter from sweden. What else should I prepare? Is it only me should make the cover letter for the purpose of my trip? and Is it possible to get a visa first before booking the trip? I am so confused coz it s gonna be my first time applying a visa..
thank you and i am hoping that you can answer all of my question; I am in badly in need of your help with my situation.
hi lynaj,
were you able to process your visa? how was it?/ care to share it as i am also planning to visit sweden soon… hopefully.
Hello wanderlass,
Me and my bf are planning to apply for a schengen visa, but my bf is an American and I am here in Philippines now. He told me I apply for a schengen visa for us to meet his family in Italy. I work overseas for almost 2 years but I already have a new passport now because my old passport accidentally got wet that’s why I need to get new one. Hope u can give me an advice what documents or supporting documents I need to present so I can apply for a schengen visa as soon as possible. Hope u can help me with this because it is my first time to apply for this visa.
Thank u and have a good day :-)

Hi wanderlass! Can i still use my valid schengen visa which is currently in my old passport? I had to renew my passport since the cover was detached.
In theory yes, you should be able to use it. My US visa is in my old passport. But to be safe, I would call the embassy that issued your visa to ask.
Hi wonderlass, i wanna ask if i still need to sumbit my bank statement/proof of funds even if the person who envited me to visit in shengen area will covered everything all the expenses? I got mostof the requirements but not this one, also im wondering what will be the questions normally ask during the interview? Just need to got some idea although i was told that it could be different depends on where im going.. im looking forward to hear from you soon.. joy
Hi K,
Were you able to use your valid Schengen visa from your old passport with your new passport?
Hi! I’ve been to Paris once and it was our field trip back in college. This year we planned to go to Paris again but this time with my mom and little sis. I’m kinda having a dilemma here coz, I already graduated in college and I’m considered as dependant and I’m 21 years old. I dont have a problem with my bank cert, bank statement or anything but I just opened up my travel agency business this year. i still don’t have my ITR but i have my business registration.. I’ve heard also that if you have former canadian and australian visa, it’s much easier to get the visa? is it enough?
Hi iamkimyu, :) I think your business reg is enough na :) just complete the requirements nalang, some are optional naman eh :)
Thank you :D
Hello,I am an Indian national staying in Philippines on a tourist visa. i am applying for long stay student visa for France. i applied once but they refused my visa without any reason. so i will apply again, can you please tell me what docs should i give. as i was checking for french embassy in other countries they all had the same docs but in Philippines its different. For eg. they don’t ask for OFII form, CV and Cover Letter for visa over here. As last time when i applied i didn’t gave these things because it wasn’t mention in the documents list. But do you think is should give it this time? because last time when i gave my doc it was all complete and i got denied for no reason. So should i give these docs this time, idk am really confused about this french embassy system over here. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Kind regards
I only know about Filipino passport requirement. I don’t even know if you can apply outside of your country. Because we cannot do so if we’re just tourist of another country.
Yes you can apply from a different country if your staying more than 6 months in that place. what about the requirements for Filipino students applying for long stay visa to france?
