Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.
Philippine passport holders are required Schengen visa to visit one or more of the states in the Schengen Region in Europe. This visa is valid in all Schengen states for a stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period for a visit, tourism or business. It is not valid for employment.

When to apply for Schengen Visa?
Applications can be made earliest three (3) months before the planned entry.
How much is Schengen Visa?Â
The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend?  Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them.  These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

I don’t think so.
For those of you who are planning to apply for Schengen Visa to Norway, Denmark and Sweden.. here’s another helpful blog :-) http://www.skattebasse.com/2014/02/how-to-apply-for-tourist-visa-to-visit.html
hi everyone! hi wanderlass! thanks so much for your detailed and for the responses made on most queries. I don’t know if you have encountered this question of mine:
I was lucky granted Schengen Tourist Visa last 2009 upon invitation of a Filipina friend of Austrian citizen and visited Austria and several schengen territories throughout my three months stay in europe. I have used my 2009 schengen visa according to the rules.
My question: I am planning this year to visit europe once again as austria as my point of entry and the same Pinay friend will host my stay there. Will i go the same process in applying? will i start from scratch again?
Hope to hear a response, ASAP.
Thanks and more power to wanderlass!
same process

hi wanderlass…i got denied unfortunately last 9th of october.. and i flew to singapore the next day so i wasn’t able to do an appeal immediately.. we will be applying once again and this time i will just stay for 2 weeks.. i got denied because as per embassy i don’ have enough reason to go back though i presented my work details ( im working home base ). what else can i present that would convince them that i will be coming home, i don’t have any property to show. please help…thanks…
I’m a home-based worker as well and my visa was granted last month. I applied through The Netherlands Embassy. That was my concern before as well and many of the people I know were granted a visa too, some were freelancers who doesn’t have a monthly salary. I guess the documents that really helped me were my savings (bank certificates) and investments (through bank), plus the fact that I’ve been granted a Schengen visa 5x years ago (that was when I was office based). I advise is that you somehow, save some money and invest in peso market or equity funds. That’s enough proof that you’ll come back and shows that you’re financially stable.

hello everyone,
i still don’t have the original documents coming from my sponsor (sent thru snail mail). Would it be okay to just submit the scanned documents? Am a bit worried now. Applying at Norwegian Embassy.
Thanks.
You can send scanned documents I think… as long as they are all signed by your sponsor… I got my visa a week ago.. they’re really nice at the embassy
thank for responding jc. i actually had my appointment/interview last Sept 8, visa application was then approved last Sept 11 and received my passport (thru LBC) on Sept 13 – that was fast. :-)
i actually had scanned documents. and yes, personnel at the Norwegian Embassy are really nice and accommodating :-)
Hi Sey. Do they normally return your passport after the visa interview? Coz they returned mine but it has also the stamp “C/D Visa No.” and then the date when I applied and the Embassy’s name. They told me to wait for their email. They also took my photo and my fingerprints. My documents are complete except for the proof that my guarantor and I have met already because this will be the first time we will meet if ever. But we are in constant communication for almost a year now, I even provided copies of some of our communication. I’m so worried. I hope it gets approved…
hi Kimberly, in my case, they took my passport together with the documents and the officer told me to just wait for 2-5 days.
hopefully someone who had the same case as yours could give you some advice.
pray! :)
hi Kimberly, if you are applying for tourist visa and you don’t have a picture that shows that u already met personally its big chance that your visa application will be denied and that is based on my experience. Good luck to you
Yep. I used scanned docs for faster processing.. its fine as long as its clear and scanned straight also. ;) goodluck.
thank you wanderlass for your reply. im kinda worried thinking this might cause problem on our application,. thanks again

hi wanderlass,
nag’apply na po ako ng visa sa french embassy and i’ll get the result tomorrow. naba’bother lang ako kasi hindi ko sure kung naibigay ko yun photocopy of cover letter, invitation letter and flight reservation. pero tinignan na ng 1st consulate/cashier yun original documents ko bago niya kunin payment ko. hindi ba nila tatanggapin yun payment kung hindi complete requirements? parang ganun kasi dahil ayaw niya tanggapin payment ko hangga’t hindi niya na’scan mga original documents ko. i need an answer po. :(
ano din pong documents usually fina’follow up nila?
Hi Chi, same thing happened to me this week. Hope you can share what happened to your application. Thanks!
it is approved.
lesson learned: make sure to organize everything before the appointment day para hindi nag’worry sa documents. only copy of the documents are needed. :)

Do you think if i am going to apply for another visa to Germany for the second time because i was denied last time…is it possible that i can still use my other legal documents and i don’t have any job or business to support my other documents. my only chance is the invitation letter from my boy friend, health insurance for my obligation. hope you can help me here.. i really wanted to see my boyfriend in Germany
Giving them the assurance that you will come back to the Philippines is very important. For example, if you have a job, you must secure an approved Leave of Absence letter from your company or if you’re a student, you need to secure a Leave of Absence letter from your school/university.
Hi sarah.. Ask kulang pwd b maereason ung anak k to prove that I can come back In Philippines?? Same kc kmi ng problem ne junrey
