Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.

When to apply for Schengen Visa?
Applications can be made earliest three (3) months before the planned entry.
How much is Schengen Visa?Â
The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend?  Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them.  These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

guys tomorrow is my interview to swiss embassy for visit visa to sweden..please pray for me..I will share all my experiences here tomorrow lols…thanks to all and Godbless!!!
Hi Wanderlass, I have a question.
I applied for student visa which had the duration of stay of 45 days. Recently, I plan to add 7 days because i plan to leave 7 days ahead the said date of the school. We are in a big group going to study in France and me alone decided to travel alone ahead of time because my parents gave me my 21st gift (which is to travel around Paris and Italy). I have been to Paris and had a schengen visa before. Natatakot lang ako kasi mamaya madeny ako cause I plan to go ahead and for tourism in span of 7 days, alone. Mamaya di pa matuloy internship ko.and sayang naman if I book hotels and plane ticket.
Tomorrow, I’ll be going to the attache to change this. Will I still be needing lodging vouchers/ certificates for that span of 7 days?
If ever I have all the requirements, plus the lodging cert of that 7 days and my flight booking, is it possible for my visa to be denied? I will only travel alone and if they ask the purpose of travel should I say study? or study and tourism?
THANKS!
I asked my friend kasi, he said, mamaya isipin ng consul na magTNT ako which is not, cause I cant work alone there and I’m not that fluent in French. He said na sumabay na alang ako sa group to on July 21 which is our embassy appearance na para safe. Mam, i need advice? Hoping for your sincerest (and quickest hehe) reply!
-Ralph
Hi SJM. It is rest assured that you will be asked on how do you know your host for how long,if you already meet and where. You will be ask on what is your relationship with the person. Make sure you fill out the additional questionnaires properly and honestly and as much as possible avoid erasures. In my case, I had so many erasures on the additional questionnaires. I think it made my interviewer suspicious. Be sure that your requirements are complete and don’t forget to ask bank statements from you bank for the last 3 months. Also ask your host if he emailed or submitted requirements to the Swiss Embassy in Manila (e.g Invitation letter, Proof of income, banks statements for the last 3 months. Make sure you also have the copy of the invitation letter from your host. Make sure you know what is the job and address of your host. You will also be ask if you have family, siblings and you will be asked to described them. Since you had traveled different countries abroad, they would ask you who was with you when you traveled
The interviewer are Filipinos. They are kinda strict and I think that’s how they have been trained, since they are the front liners for the entry of a Filipino to Switzerland. Just be calm and be prepared. That’ the least advise that I could give you. I wish you all the best with your application and thank you for sending me your good luck. :)
Hi Michelle, Its so nice of you to reply and give some tips. Im so nervous now, because I havent met my host and honestly, I only known him for 7months. I will be applying for Sweden visa but that will course thru Swiss emabassy.( I think they are not required to email the invitation to the embassy) so I will just bring the invitation with me. Im really so nervous. :(
Hi Michelle, Do I have to ask my friend to email to the swiss embassy his invitation and his bank statement? Im re reading the documents needed for visit visa but it says that the invitation should be handed/brought to the embassy during the interview, and what are the contents of the questionnaire? Thank you so much of the kindness. :)
Hi andrea! You make me feel more nervous about my result. How long have you been with your present company? What documents did you submit?
Cos the one who interviewed me said, their basis for approval depends on the printed docs you submit.
Andrea I am planning also to apply visa going to france to visit my boyfriends parents..But I feel more nervous right now.I don’t even have work right now because I am still having my review class for my board exams. But your visa was denied even you have work here and you have proof of employment.I am planning to apply next month.Oh my God….
Hi JD how’s ur application? may resulta na po ba?
hi Marie! They refused me a visa due to “my intention to leave the territory of the Member States before the expiry of the visa could not be ascertained.” Tsk. I submitted all the required documents. My manager was even more confident than I am that I could get a visa since I am working on a reputable company. It says on the paper that I may lodge an appeal. @Lil- what do you think i should do? Anyone here who had the same case and filed for an appeal? how was it?
Thanks!
Hi JD,
How long have you been working with your current company? Was it the witch at French Embassy’s window 1 who interviewed you?
I was interviewed by the girl from window 1 she was such a bitch. I got denied the visa even if I was able to get it the previous year.
Kuting, na interview na ako kahapon June 23, window 1 ako then she stamped my passport at ung receipt dun sa back is meron tatak window 1 released July 5,2011 @ 11am…ganun din ba sayo nun?
@JD We have the same case. I was also denied due to that factor, haist. Have the same question in mind. Are you filing an appeal and how do you think will it be? Have you already filed? Ilang percentage kaya success rate for filing an appeal.. Thanks!
I filed an appeal last 15JUNE, a day after I was refused a visa. I received their response today via courier and everything is written in French! I know some basic french but I can’t understand the whole thing stated here. Does anyone from here speak French? THANKS!
Hi JD,
I speak French. You want me to take a look?
The letter sent to me simply says that the appeal I sent to them wasn’t written in French and I may want to re-address the appeal written in this language and send to them within 1 month upon reception of their notice. WTH! They should have noted that in the refusal letter! Such a waste of time.
Hi Kuting. Already figured it out. Thanks anyway :)
Yikes :( If you still really want to pursue it, you have it translated to French at Alliance Francaise in Makati. It’s 700 or 900 per page I think.
hi,I applied fir France visa and i have completed all the lists of requirements.. I have invitation ( attestation d’accuiel) signed by my boyfriend’s mom and all the necessary document but the visa was denied…
the paper feedback says that my leaving of the member state is ascertain.
I have been working for the same company here and applied only for one month vacation on july to visit my bf and his family.
Hi Andrea,
We’re in the same situation but I won’t know til end of this week yet. What questions did the consul ask you and was it the female consul?
hi Andrea na meet mo na ba yung boyfriend mo???? kasi plan ko mag apply nang visa…
My Swiss national host filed an appeal in regard to the refusal of my visa application and we will have to wait for 8-12 weeks to know the decision of the office of migration in Switzerland. I wish that we would be able to know the result the earliest as possible whatever the decision would be. Anyone here who had experienced the same situation as mine? Do you think that the decision of the office of migration in Switzerland will be favorable or would they issue me a visit visa? Does the processing really takes 8-12 weeks? I really wish it would be shorter to lessen our anxiety. I am single and I have work in my country. My company knows about my intended vacation and I will report back to work after my vacation. Any answer to my questions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Hi Michelle, I understand your situation, its very nerve cracking waiting for the result but always hope for the best. I will be going to the Swiss embassy also to apply for visit visa and I’m really nervous. DO they have friendly staff there? Are the questions really hard? From what I know, there is high rate of approval for the appeal case if the purpose is visit visa(sponsor), in your case there is a big chance that they will grant you one. Goodluck on both of us!!!
Hello there, I find your site very informative. My concern is this, I will be lodging my application for Sweden Visa on July thru Swiss Embassy, my friend(guy)whom I known for 7 months now will be sponsoring my visit( guaranteed accomodation etc). I had visited UK, Japan, S.Korea and almost all Asian countries and I’m working in a well-known bank here. But I’m still so nervous about this application if the interviewee will ask on how much I know about my host. What are chances of my visa will be approved? Help.
hello po sa inyo! naka tanggap na ako ng approval from Royal Norwegian Embassy Manila for Schengen Visa! then Embassy ask me to submit my confirm ticket and travel medical insurance since na padala kuna yong original passport ko for application.I bought the ticket last march 2011 pa, but sabi nila not applicable to buy ticket unless you’ve been inform that your application has been approved, ang confirmation na ticket na na pass ko ay dated march something pa???
at sigurado po ba ako na ma stamp yong passfort ko??
Hello,
I just want to ask what’s better to apply is it visitor visa or a tourist visa for Switzerland if I have my sponsor which is my aunt who is living in Switzerland. And I want to know what are the requirements for applying for a visa for Switzerland?
im looking forward to your answer
and thanks
Rose
Very informative post, thanks! Are you able to provide a guide in applying for a Schengen visa once you’re in the country, for example, Poland?
This is because I will be in Poland for business, but I don’t think that they will be giving me a Schengen visa, only a Poland work permit. So if ever, I plan to apply for a Schengen visa when I’m already there. Will you be able to help me?
