Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.

When to apply for Schengen Visa?
Applications can be made earliest three (3) months before the planned entry.
How much is Schengen Visa?
The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend? Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them. These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

Hi all! Just want to share with you my experience with the French embassy. I applied for Schengen tourist visa for 16 days for Christmas vacation with my brother and dad. My french boyfriend invited us to tour France and spend the holidays with their family. But since we will not stay in their house, we didn’t need the attestasion. The only document we asked from them was an invitation letter addressed to the embassy stating that their family is inviting us over for the holidays but we will still finance our whole trip and they assured that we will come back on January 3. I think it was a really big help. My dad is a gov’t retiree (just last March) so he submitted his retirement documents and ITR. My brother and I are very new to our jobs as we just both graduated. Me – 7monts, him – just 2 weeks!!!. He was not able to provide leave of absence certificates because of course he’s just new. This maybe the one part that made us so nervous about our application. During the interview, the lady on window 5 just asked questions about my dad’s previous employment and as expected, she questioned my brother if his company will allow him to file leaves already. He just responded that his company has a temporary shutdown during Christmas season and thus it will be easy. The lady was rude and really snob. She tossed out papers she didn’t need – my dad’s OCR and land title (as proof assets) and said it’s not on the list. She could have said it politely.
Anyway, we were asked to come back two days after. We were really tensed and nervous during this short period of waiting!!! I even researched already what to do if we get denied. Yes, so paranoid haha.
But good news, we got our visas this morning!!! :) We are so so so happy!!! :D
One question though… we weren’t asked to report back to the embassy after we return back to the Phils. Did she just forget to mention it or is just selective? Thanks :)
Goodluck to all! :D
congratulations. i’ve never been asked to do that either so it must be selective.
Hi! Wanna ask something if may magbabayad pa ba ng travel fee dito sa pilipinas? Thank you :)
while waiting for my visa, i overheard a couple of applicants being asked to sign a contract to report back at the french embassy upon their return from their trip. i guess they put an annotation at the visa as precondition for issuance. btw, i would like to thank you for posting this blog. it helped a lot in preparing my application for the Schengen visa.
Hi AA! I was passed my austrian visa and fly this coming november. They asked me to report back to the embassy after I returned back to the philippines. But I think they will asked the “REPORT” thing if you are going to visit europe for 90 days. :)
Hi AA,
What was the time given to you for the release of your passports?
I was also asked to come back after two days.
Thanks.

Hello Wanderlass.
I’m 19 years old, first year university student (taking up BA-International Studies). Last August 10, 2015 I had my appointment for my tourist visa app (Denmark) and submitted my requirements at the (VFS)visa application center.
Here are the requirements I submitted;
1. Schengen Visa Application Form –
2. One Passport sized photo with white background and not older than 6 months
3. Original Passport –
4. Photocopy of Original Passport –
5. Proof of Sufficient Funds – bank cert & bank statements-past 6 months (above 500k)
6. Full Itinerary or Detailed Day to Day Activities of the Trip
7. Proof of Accommodation/Hotel Bookings
8. Photocopy of Roundtrip Airline Ticket Reservation –
9. Photocopy of Travel Medical Insurance –
6. If currently a Student –
a)certification of enrolment from the school and school ID
b)certification of reservation (I will be traveling at the end of our 1st semester, if visa will be granted. So I asked our Department’s Dean for a seat-reservation certificate for the next sem)
7. Hotel Bookings
8. Photocopies of own means and properties (I have deed of sales of properties under my name-no title yet, I also have my car’s OR/CR-newly renewed & also under my name)
9. Cover letter
Most of my documents were notarized. My first schengen visa application was denied(for Germany). This time, I will be travelling alone and will be staying in a hotel. Denmark is my first port of entry, I will also visit Hamburg, then back to Denmark as my exit. I don’t have any sponsor. They only asked me 2 questions, first, schengen countries I will be visiting & the duration of my stay. They checked my documents one by one, and did not ask further questions, then they took my biometric and also my original passport. It’s my first time going outside the Philippines, btw.
Now I am waiting for the result/update of my application. I am really worried about it. Do you think I have submitted all the necessary requirements? is my chance of getting a visa high enough? :(
More power & God bless!
Hello!
Do let me know how your application resulted. Im applying for Schengen visa (Denmark) soon, and would take your submitted documents as a guide :)
Thanks!
Helo all,
Just done w/ my interview and sumission of documents last sept 10, 2015 at the german embassy and they said after i week ill get my passport including the details if i was approved to get a visa or not. Ito naghihintay ng result pa rin , i am applying for a schengen visa for visit to a german friend of mine.
Goodluck sa atin lahat, GOd is good
Sabi nga nila kung para sa atin tong visa na ito ibibigay talaga mag hindi naman hindi talaga :)
how was it? was the application approved? do let us know. thanks
