Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.

Applications can be made earliest three (3) months before the planned entry.
How much is Schengen Visa?Â
The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend?  Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them.  These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

Hi ! I would like to ask about your Malayan insurance. Is it the travel master have you purchased with them? I’m not sure about this thing. sorry
Thank you for your response !! :D :D :D
I canvassed travel medical insurance and found it Malayan does not provide refund of the premium in case your visa application is denied. Other companies do.
good to know!
Guys. Good day. How much is the French Visa fee in Peso now? Please help. Thank you. :-)
Hello Wanderlass, I am planning to go to Germany 1st quarter next year. I work for my cousin’s company (headquarters in UK) but I am physically in the Philippines (home-based job). I received salary and incentives however; since the company is not registered Philippines, I do not have ITR. The company does not have certificate of employment nor ID. The only proof I got is my contract which was just sent through email.
I thought I have money to finance my trip however; the employment requirement scares me. I don’t own any lands here, too. Do you have anything to suggest for my situation?
Thank you!
Can my German sponsor submit also the certificate of board and lodging to support me of my stay?

Hello everyone! Im maru. Hope somebody could help me what is the best thing to do. Im planning to go to sweden by july 2016. Im married but separated since 2012. I have one kid living in the philippines with my mom. Now im in japan working. I meet my swedish boyfriend online this summer. Our first meeting was in the phils when i have my 1week vacation in the philippines and we went together in japan last july. He visited me again this october for 5days and he will go back again on dec. he wants me to go to sweden just for a tour, and i also love the idea but im only planning for about 7days since im working here in japan. He will be sponsoring me and actually trying to use the fiancee or gilfriend visa but i said we cant use it since im not yet annulled, might just complicate things. So now my questions is should i apply for a tourist visa or visiting friend visa since he will covers all the expenses and will submit all the supporting documents needed. If visiting friend, will i be questioned since the matter of the fact that we are not just friend. Also he email me the gf/bf/fiancee visa application and there is the precise question (were you married before? If yes, is the married annulled? If not annulled, what is the reason?) so if i take this type of visa application and just be honest with all the answers like its not yet annulled, will it be a ground to deny my application? Thanks and GOdbless everyone. My apology for my long letter. ?
go for tourist visa, its complicated if ya go for Visitors visa/GF/Friend Visa.
Hi maru,
Just wanna ask if what kind of visa did you applied?? Visit visa or tourist visa. Thanks
Hi Wanderlass!
Regarding documents from the guarantor, okay lang ba na i-scan ng guarantor ko and send it to me by email or need pa ipa-courier? Thank you :)
As far as i know scanning is not allowed.. the embassy strictly want the original copy of the documents of the guarantor,, Kase they will really asked the original with his signature..
Goodluck :)
Hi. I’m planning to have a solo European trip in 2016 but I just graduated college and passed the board exam (so currently unemployed) so my parents will pay for my trip. Will it be possible for me to get a visa if I would submit an affidavit letter stating that my parents will sponsor my trip so I could just submit their ITR, Business Permits, Bank Certs? Or is this a hopeless case? Thanks in advance!
you’re on the right track
Hi,
I have a question. I was invited for a vacation in switzerland for 4-5 days. I want to know if how much money possibly do u think I should need?? I will stay at my friend place in Siwtzerland (for visa to get approve)
Thanks
Switzerland is one of the more expensive cities in Europe. Depends on what you will be doing, but to give you and idea, a simple (not fancy restaurant) pasta dinner with coke is about 30USD. Tram ride is about 2USD. Museum and such about 10-20USD. Their currency CHF is same as USD.
ms wanderlass i need your thought on this please..
my friend and i applied for visa yesterday at vfs in wafi (french consulate) here in dubai.. today my friend received a call and she was asked about our itinerary for 15days and does she have a relative in europe.. of course she said no.. its her first time to travel and she got 8k aed (around 90,000pesos) on her account.. im just wondering why i didnt receive a call.. i have already some travel history from other countries like India, Singapore and Japan.. i hope this will help.. waiting for visa approval makes me really nervous.. I also checked on visa status tracker online and it says INTERVIEW SCHEDULED when in fact we weren’t asked for interview at all to appear at the French Embassy. I hope someone can enlighten me on this
Hi.
I am planning to apply a tourist visa to the Czech Embassy. My planned visit would be from July 1, 2016 until September 28, 2016. My friend whom I have known for more than a year will sponsor the expenses of the trip. I will be staying in his apartment. I don’t have job yet, no kids, no properties. I don’t have any proof that I will still come back here in the Philippines. What are the necessary documents I need to submit and how can I guarantee that my visa application will be approved? And about the travel insurance, how much is it?
Thanks in advance for your response.
Hi everyone! Can someone help me with my question? My married brother and I plan to join a group tour to Europe in March 2016. I have no problem with getting Schengen visa since I’m a holder of an Australian passport and also I have a dual citizenship (Fil/Aus). My brother, on the other hand, only has a Philippine passport and will need to apply. What worries me is although he owns an internet cafe, the business is in his wife’s name. They have two kids, one has finished school while the other is still in university. He basically runs the business by himself and been doing it for over 10 years. Because he does not get paid like an employee, he cannot produce an ITR. He does not have much money in the bank in his name. The trip we are taking together will be paid by me since I have a good job and money in the bank. He is an amateur photographer and wants to go to Europe to capture its beauty. What are the chances of him in successfully securing Schengen visa? Thanks for your responses in advance.
Applications are always subject for approval hence no guarantee that you will be approved. I applied in Czech embassy and waiting for the result now. Since I have a formal invitation which states my bf will shoulder all my expenses they never asked for too many documents. Though not required I made a cover letter stating my intentions in visiting Prague. Just a tip make sure you check their website and have all the documents listed on the category you are applying for. I have seen people there wasted their time and were not able to file their applications due to incomplete documents. The cheapest insurance I found was Malayan but not refundable once your application is denied. They are the fastest to process though. Just walk in to their office and pay 4500 plus the stamp. I believe I paid 4550 in total if I am not mistaken.
Cheers!
Update : I made it to Europe. French immigration are super nice and the Czech immigration as well. Good luck everyone!
hello..im aimmie,,i just want to ask if i still need to present a bank certificate if my french brother in law will shoulder all my expenses, attestation, ticket, and insurance,.thank you so much.
No u dont need your bank certificate but u need your sponsor bank certificate or statement to prove that they can support your stay.
Thank you..
and another question,, is it OK that I have a schedule interview on Nov.5 but my travel date is on Dec.2 2015?
That should be fine i guess.. if ur case is same as mine it would be easier for them to make a decision.. the only reason i apply for my visa earlier so i can fixed something up if my visa get denied. Normally the embassy wil give the result for 15 working days.. so i guess thats totally fine..
Thank u very much..ur a big help for me. @m&k01.
@dax ..I just finish my interview today.all good.for me embassy is good.I was late but still they accept my application..I think it’s also normal they have lot of question about the documents I have..
I just pray a good result.
?
Hahah we have the same experience aimmie.. i was late too on my interview thought that will give me a bad shot :D
But im glad we can share our experience,, I hope u get ur visa approved same as mine.. Goodluck :)

And now that I have 3mons holiday we want to try it again to apply in Philippines.Maybe will be grant because Im filipino citizen.
I just want to ask also, can we use the Attestation D accueil if my address is stated here in qatar or we need to change it to my address in the philippines?

Hi Wanderlass,
I’m Jhane,I had a German bf his visiting me here in the Philippines this coming Nov. We’ve met on a dating site and know each other for 4 months now his family wants me to visit them in their country. My question is that it is possible that the German Embassy grant me a visa if the father of my boy friend will sponsor me? Coz my bf has not enough money to support me if he will be my sponsor. And also i want to ask if the appearance of the father of my bf is needed here in the embassy? Looking forward for ur reply…
yes the father can be your sponsor. he only needs to send you document of support.
Hi wanderlass, I am quite nervous as I will have my appointment at Netherlands Embassy for the second time as I will be applying again a visit visa to visit my fiance again. I am afraid that they might think negative as this time i will apply for 90 days not unlike before which is only 25 days but I got granted before. But the purpose this time is to spend christmas, anniversary, new year and valentines day. Do you think my application this time will be okay as well? I am a student and i will give them a certificate that I was enrolled to my school because right now is the end of semester. Please enlighten me wanderlass. Thank you!
Hi Wanderlass.
Im planning to apply a schengen visa in Belgium embassy but my destination will be in Bulgaria. I am aware that the country i will visit is not part of Schengen but EU member. Is it possible not to get denied as im married to a Bulgarian and i was in Bulgaria last july using a tourist visa but now that my husband is onboard the ship he couldn’t send me documents i need to apply a tourist visa once again. The reason why im coming back there is to process my residence visa. I must stay in Bulgaria for 3 months just to get this id from the police station. Do you think they will grant me a multiple visa?
Thank you in advance and i hope for your quick response.
I’m not sure of the answer but if you have the right requirement there is no reason to deny you visa esp if you’ve got one before.
Hi wanderlass,
I just want to ask if I can get a schengen visa if my bf is an American? Because he want to meet me in Italy for me to meet his family there, and he will support all the expenses for our stay there. Do I still need a bank certificate? Hope u can help me with this things, I really need to know so I can apply immediately.
Thank u so much :-)
Jocelyn
Actually, it is not always that simple. Having the right documents is not enough. They also need to be sure you will come back to your home and not just stay there. So if you travel alone and don’t have a steady job, they can refuse you, as long as it looks suspicious enough.
