Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.
Philippine passport holders are required Schengen visa to visit one or more of the states in the Schengen Region in Europe. This visa is valid in all Schengen states for a stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period for a visit, tourism or business. It is not valid for employment.
Schengen Region
The Schengen area consists of the ff countries
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, the Czech Republic.
As of 2014, valid Schengen visa (type: double or multiple entry), who have already entered the Schengen area, may travel to the following without additional visa and may stay for period equal to the remainder of the time for which the Schengen visa is valid.
– Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Romania
Philippine passport holders are required Schengen visa to visit one or more of these Member States. This visa is valid in all Schengen states for a stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period for a visit, tourism or business. It is not valid for employment.
When to apply for Schengen Visa?
Applications can be made earliest three (3) months before the planned entry.
How much is Schengen Visa?Â
The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend?  Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them.  These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

Done my interview yesterday Thursday June 23,2011..I was in the window 1,and she stamp my passport and gave it back to me with the receipt and in the back she put July 5 11am for the result if i get or not the visa. haaay, ok naman ang interview, kung ano lang itanong niya,un lang sinagot ko..iwan ko kung mabigyan ako..wala naman xa ask pa sa docs ko, cguro complete na un….sino naka experienced ng ganito then denied then pala or got the visa? thanks…
hello rose,
may I know what they put ot stamped on your passport? My friend just got a receipt with a date at the back. And they returned her passport back.
Just curious. Thanks
Hi Melo, stamped lang nila ung isang page ng passport ko, un daw ang space for visa and then same sa friend mo sa back ng receipt ko she my scheduled to get the result. and yes she gave me back my passport..ganun din ba sa friend mo?
Hi rose/melo! the one who interviewed me was a pregnant lady from window 1 too. she told me that they will call me if ever there are additional documents that i need to submit… question: ganun din ba ang sinabi niya sa friend mo? lahat ba ng passports sa page6 ang stamp nila with initials? kasi i had a stamp on page6 with 2 columns on it, sa left dun nila nilalagay yung date of application tapos sa right nakalagay yung Embassy of France in Manila. Sa upper left side box ng stamp ko, may initial na nilagay, i’m wondering if ganun din ba sa friend mo? sorry, just got curious again.. but thanks!
hello rose and purple,
my friend was denied. the letter says that “her intention to leave the territory could not be ascertain”. I just told her to make an appeal.
Hi Melo and Purple, i think Purple should have the result today too..we will wait for her posting…i am nervous on my result.
Hi Purple,
The stamps on the passport depends on the availability of your passport pages. They don’t necessarily follow a rule about which page to stamp. They randomly select which available page to put the stamps on. If your visa application is approved, your visa will be placed on the page where it was initially stamped. So don’t worry about it and goodluck.
p.s. and yes, they will call you just in case they need additional documents. Clue: if they asked you submit hotel vouchers, then it means you are approved because you need to book your hotels already.
Goodluck again!
When I claimed my visa there were a lot who got upset because they got denied – we were all given a slip to come back after 10 days for releasing but it turns out not everyone got it. They do verification of your documents during the 10 day period so anyone can still get refused.
hello carla,
can you share what happen when you came back to window 1? so i can relay to my friend and so that she can prepare herself.
she’s having some cold feet for the past days and she is scheduled to come back on June 30.
your input will be much appreciated.
Hi guys wala parin yung result ng application ko.Nagtataka nga ako bakit ang tagal..I really want to know if i will have it or not..My host sent an email at the Swiss embassy to follow up my applictaion but he said they forward him at the embassy in Bangkok so he sent an email at the embassy there this afternoon and expecting to hear from them tomorrow.
Anyone who has the idea if bakit ang tagal ng decision sa application ko? Its past 2 weeks sinced i applied for it…
Maricar, were you given a receipt? You could actually track your application online using the receipt number or your date of birth through this link. http://www.vfsglobal.com/sweden/thailand/. I hope it would help. Good luck.
nabuhayan talaga ako when i read your message kaya lang na down ulet kc i didnt see any number dito sa receipt ko…which number are you referring to?pacenxa na ha wala talaga ako makita number dito sa receipt na binigay nila..mostly contact numbers lang nila.Ayoko naman tumawag kasi sabi sakin 3 to 4 weeks lol..baka kasi makulitan sakin and makaapekto pa sa result ko.I dont know what to feel na haha reading all the threads here,i feel happy kapag may nagsabi they got their visa and then will start to think “eh yun kayang akin??” haha..but good experience, mixed feelings..haaay..ano kaya…lilipad ba or magbuburo nalang sa pinas hehehe..goodluck everyone! whatever will be the result , always remember that its always the best for us !!!
tinawagan kaba? sa sweden ba punta mo? ganun talaga un kc forward pa nila sa bangkok ang application. ganun din nangyari sa friend ko…and then she got the visa..
nope no call from the embassy..that day kc when i went there for my interview , i met 2 girls na sa sweden din yung punta nila and that time releasing na yung visa nila. They told me that their papers was forwarded to the embassy at bangkok also but after one week , the embassy called them to submit their passport and then binigyan na sila ng date ng release ng visa nila.Pero in my case 2 weeks na…haaay hirap pala ng ganito kasi nahirapan ako mag plan ng schedules ko kc di ko lam if aalis ba ko or hindi.Pacenxa na sa kin ha..first time ko kasi lol..intended arrival ko is june 30 sana
tawagan mo cla…kung ano na nangyari…
Tomorrow Thursday 8am is my interview to French embassy :) please help me to pray….I wish i can get the visa….
good luck rose! be confident.. God bless :)
let me know purple kung ano result sayo…baka ok ung sayo kc sister mo ang nag invite…
yup.. good luck to us! God bless.. :)
Hi, I’ve been reading your blog and it’s been really helpful. I’m really hoping to hear your suggestion. My problem is that I applied for a shengen visa from the French Embassy but it was denied, I was really disappointed because I was able to get a schengen visa from the same embassy last year and I came back. I was wondering why they denied my visa, could it be because I asked for a 90 day visa? last time I had 30 days and this time my friend gave me an invitation. Maybe they thought I was planning to get married there. What do you think happened miss and what do you think I should do? Do I still have a chance if I reapplied? I really hope to hear your suggestions. Thank you very much.
what did they say when u asked why you’re denied? I think u can request for reconsideration without applying again. write another letter. i think the french love letters.
They gave me a paper that said that my visa was refused due to insufficient subsistence during the duration of my stay… and something about acquiring it lawfully. They also said that they could not ascertain if I would leave the schengen state after the expiration of my visa. I’m really heartbroken because I didn’t expect it. I will follow your advice and make an appeal. Does it mean that because I was denied once I no longer have a chance to get a schengen visa again if I reapplied?
Thank you very much, it’s really comforting to know that there are people like you helping out strangers like myself. Your blog is awesome and I hope to hear from you soon : )
I guess it means u don’t have enough money in the bank. They think u dont gave enough fund to last u 90 days. And that u will look for job to sustain. My invitation is for accommodation only. I showed money to support myself. I guess that’s where u have to work on on ur appeal.
I provided the bank statements and a notarized letter stating that my sister was sponsoring my trip, I also included my own bank statements but I don’t have a lot of money in it hehe. My friend’s invitation was for accommodation only also that’s why i’m at really disappointed, im trying to figure out what happened and your suggestions really help a lot. Is it possible that the consul just hated me hehe? (im kidding) one last question though, do I still have a chance if I reapply and just ask for 30 days instead? : ) Thank you so very much : )
@ catherine if u dont mind how much yung money mo as show money sa savings mo cath????
Hi Catherine, i think wanderlass is right, the embassy may not be satisfied with the amount of money you showed, considering that you are requesting for a 90 day visa. And that your sister will only sponsor your accommodation.
I think so too, it was wrong of me to ask for too much : ( but I thought there was enough money in my sisters account she had around 10 m in that account and I showed my own account too but I didn’t have enough. I had an invitation from a french citizen he was the one who was supposed to sponsor my accommodation. Asking for 90 days got me in trouble, they questioned getting leave from my job for that long and yes I guess they thought I was going to find a job. Its probably one of those single filipina prejudice they have mail order bride akala sakin : (
Hi! Just got curious, I had my interview a while ago with the French Embassy, then they returned my passport with a stamp stating the date when I filed for the Short-stay Visa. Then my interviewer asked me to go back after 10days, so I will be coming back on June30. My intended flight is on the 6th of July. I’m wondering if the stamp would mean anything? Need an advice… Help? thanks!
it’s a stamp that says u applied for a visa. normally when they ask u to come back on a certain date, it means your documents are complete and will be given visa. good luck.
many thanks! im hoping for the best.. God bless you more! :)
for the past years, as i can recall, i got denied 3 times due to lack of documents [at least that’s what i think it is].. they also asked me to go back for the result, then i get a letter stating my applicat’ns were denied… is it a new rule now that if they asked you to go back, it means the docs are complete & will be issued a visa? hope for your reply… thanks lil!
hello purple,
its funny bacause my friend had an interview the same date you had and asked to return on June 30 also. Her passport was returned so now she’s gone nuts. I wanted to help her so i was searching for the latest system/ precedure when i came accross this site.
Lil didnt reply to your last post. I hope that its a new system. Na talagang VISA na pagbalik niyo on June 30.
hi melo! what type of visa did she [your friend] applied for if you don’t mind me asking.. i’m feeling the same way, to be honest, i’m still nervous.. i hope they would be kind enough to issue us a visa, since we have good intentions naman.. as for me, i just want to see my sister whom i haven’t seen in 13 years..
Hello Purple
She applied for a tourist Visa going to paris. It seems that there are so many inconsistencies in the system. One example is the stamped at the back of the receipt, you and my friend have the same– indicating the date of your return and to which window (in your case its window 1)
And Rose got her receipt stamped wich goes like this…window 1, released on July 5,2011 11am.
Bakit may word the RELEASED, yung sa inyo ng friend ko eh date and window number lang?
What’s the implication?
Hi, it’s not a new rule. IF you were asked to return to the embassy at a certain date, it doesn’t guarantee that your visa application is approved. I know someone who was asked to come back only to find out that her visa was denied.
Goodluck guys.
Hi Melo,
Actually, if I am right, the one who interviews you will also be the same person who will release the result when you return. Did you check if there’s a box beside the word “RELEASED”, because they will check the box beside it once the visa is approved and released to you. Also, those people behind the windows are not the ones deciding if you will get approved or not, they just check the completeness of the documents before they pass it on to the authorized people who decides if you get approved or not. Hope this helps. =)
hi prechie, ask q lang sana kung yung friend mo bumalik s embassy ng fill up b xa ng declaration form?
@Jayson, no she was not asked to fill up a declaration form.
ah gnun b? kinakabahan kc aq d q alam kung grant b visa q o denied dapat kc kahapon release ng passport q gling s german embassy kaso dumating skin letter n personal q dw kunin s embassy ska fill up ndin dw aq ng declaration form n ibibigay ng counter..kaya eto ntetensyon aq kung ano b lagay q..
Hi Wanderlass, the same situation with purple, they stamped my passport and at the back of my receipt they put window 1, released on July 5,2011 11am.
hello rose,
My friend had the same stamped at the back of her receipt but minus the word RELEASED.
So mas mukang malinaw na VISA na yang babalikan mo.
Hi guys! Ang stamp sa back ng receipt ko ang naka-indicate, Window 1 Releasing on June 30, 2011, 11:00am.. I don’t know if it’s the same with Rose..
Purple ganun nga same as you..pero July 5 pa ung sa akin…sorry hindi released kung hindi releasing on.
hi purple and rose,
My friend’s stamped at the back of her receipt says she need to come back to window 1 on July 30 at 11am. Hopefully, she will be approved. Its true that the front liners were just to receive documents. But i believe that they serve as “filters”… before your documents could reach the approving officer. If you could notice, they put marginal notes on your application papers/ documents as they interview you. So maniwala man kayo o hindi, kahit pa staff lang sila eh pwede parin silang mangharang ng hindi nila feel na applicant. And their bosses wouldnt know anyways.
So kailangan ding makipag plastikan sa kanila… or… i-perfect mo talaga yung papers para wala silang makitang butas.
I have a friend who works in an embassy and he is one of the frontliners too. And he said that it is indeed happening.
Good luck to everyone.
Hi melo, bakit July 30 pa makuha ang result niya?
Hi melo! the one who interviewed me was a pregnant lady from window 1. she told me that they will call me if ever there are additional documents that i need to submit… question: ganun din ba ang sinabi niya sa friend mo? lahat ba ng passports sa page6 ang stamp nila with initials? kasi i had a stamp on page6 with 2 columns on it, sa left dun nila nilalagay yung date of application tapos sa right nakalagay yung Embassy of France in Manila. Sa upper left side box ng stamp ko, may initial na nilagay, i’m wondering if ganun din ba sa friend mo? sorry, just got curious again.. but thanks!
Hello Rose and Purple,
She was asked to return on June 30 pala (sorry, its not July 30) – 11am for the result. For she is scheduled to leave on the 11TH of July.
As per your question purple, the interviewer on window didnt say anything about calling her for additional documents. She was told outrightly that she has to return on the 30th of this month for the result.
Her papers are complete. And she is confident that that she will be approved if they will base their judgment on her documents and not on their assumption that she will never return. She has a sound career and a business plus she will be getting married on December.
The interviewer was just curious why she is travelling alone and how come the boyfriend will not be joining her. But i guess her reason was valid and acceptable. She just simply wants to travel alone as what she did in the past before she could jump into married life.
It is a fact that some people get denied bec of “assumption”. Eventhough you’ve been granted visa before or you have submitted all the documents required, you have a fat account (yet visa was denied). It all balls down to fate. We can really never tell. So you just have to pray.
I just hope that my friend will get her visa on the 30TH. So she can relax and start packing her bags.
Good luck to everyone.
purple,
lahat ng sinabi mo about what they did to your passport is same with what they did to my friend’s.
just think positive. begin to pack your bags now and claim that you’re gonna get your visa soon. hehehe.
if you are confident with your papers, and you did very well with the interview, all you need is to get down on your knees and pray. Kung para sayo, para sayo.
hi melo! tama ka. for now, what we really need are prayers. i truly appreciate all the informations i got here. let’s hope for the best for everyone. thanks so much. good luck to everyone! God bless.. =)
WOW!!! thank you so much Lil for your updated post. It’s a big help. :)
I have a few queries. My parents are going to Italy & France… but they’ll be staying longer in Italy. :) (I’ll be lodging their visa at the Italian Embassy). They’ll be leaving on Sept. :)
1.My Mom’s passport will expire by Feb. What would be your advice, my mom will have her passport renewed first, then apply for a schengen visa? or the other way around? (considering the nearest interview date for the passport is on August).
2.I have read your cover letter. Do we really need to book a hotel? as in like, it has to have booking confirmation numbers and the likes?
Thank you so much! :)
–Christine :)
1. Find out how long takes to renew ppt. If can have it back b4 interview. Its better do it before i think. Bring old ppt to the interview. 2. Yes, have to do it talaga. Painful!
Thank you Lil! :) will do that… :)
@MAricar: Thank you Maricar..and i hope na makukuha ko yong passport ko this month. And goodluck sana ma approve yong visa mo
Godbless Maricar
Rose
hello kuting I am planning to apply visa going to france next month july to meet the parents of my boyfriend..hindi ko pa na meet yung bf kasi busy cya sa work niya thats why his family is willing to invite me to visit their country and meet them..one factor ba na ma denied yung visa mo dahil di mo pa na meet yung bf mo????hope to hear your response…
Hi Michelle, we are on the same both, thou di ko pa naman BF young nag invite sa akin. To tell you honestly, I went to the travel agency last saturday and told them about the situation I have, Thou I had travelled to Uk and Japan and in Asia, they said its still 50/50 situation because, I havent met the host yet. But we will never know until we try right.
@SRM may work kana dito sa pinas?? buti pka may tatak na yung passport mo ako first time ko pa lang. What if sabihin natin na na meet na bf .Ano kaya ang requirements na e ask nila?or ma trace kaya nila???kasi ang hirap talage mag isip kung ano nag e sagot mo.but what country are you planning to visit???
Hi Michelle: Dear they will eventually find out if your foreign BF had visited the Philippines.
Sweden. They can trace that. Ang plan namin nasa invitation na lang na the bf want to show me around the country so I can see how he live his life there, since hindi nakakuha ng leave si BF, at ako ang may approved leave , we decided na ako na lang muna nag mag visit, and also add mo na “its a give and take” relationship. Also add, na next year its already planned na he will be the one to visit you here to see how is life here. HAy nakaka stress nuh? hahaha. lets hope for the best/
@srm weeeewwwww nakaka stress talaga..You got some idea..Pray lang tayo atleast nag try tayo diba????
@ rose – I think French departments and territories are not included in Schengen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Area
kuting did you present show money when you submitted your documents???what are the other requirements..please..I am planning to apply visa going to france next month (july). ang host ko ay parents ng bf ko….
@michelle – Yes I complied with all requirements listed on the French Embassy website – including Certificate of Employment stating my salary, Income Tax Return, Bank Certificates & Statements.
@kuting can u give me some idea if how much ang dapat sa bank statement kuting????thanks for the response…
I have no idea if there is a prescribed amount needed in a bank statement. I just presented all the certificates and 3 months statements for the banks that I have accounts with (savings, I even included my payroll hehe, checking, time deposit) to be sure.
Kuting, kasama ata ang mayotte Island…sa research ko sa binigay mo na website:
French territoriesThe French overseas departments of French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion, and the overseas collectivities of Saint Barthélemy and Saint Martin are part of the European Union but do not form part of the Schengen Area. The EU’s freedom of movement provisions apply, but each territory operates different visa regimes. While a visa valid for one of these territories will be valid for all, visa exemption lists differ.[11] A Schengen visa, even one issued by France, is not valid for these territories. A visa for Sint Maarten (which is valid for traveling to the Dutch side of the island of Saint Martin), is also valid for the French side.[12]
France also has several territories which are neither part of the EU nor the Schengen Area. These are: French Polynesia, French Southern and Antarctic Lands, Mayotte, New Caledonia, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, and Wallis and Futuna.
Oh sorry, I just glanced quickly at the table on the wiki site kasi na nakalagay exception :) anyway it makes more sense that they’re part of Schengen Area. You can clarify at the embassy :)
@rose – I am not so sure. Visa validity is usually good for 90 days but they also state specifically how many days you can stay within that time period (example 30 days anytime between september to november). Be prepared to answer questions about your relationship with your host. One question pala, has your BF visited the Philippines na?
Kuting, my bf has been in Philippines last Dec. 2010 and we travelled to Thailand last March 2011. What questions does the consul usually asked? thanks..
@rose – I was asked my relationship with my host – in my case it’s my fiance’s mother who made the attestation. Then the woman at window 1 proceeded to ask me about my fiance – when did we meet, how did we meet, how long we’ve been together, details of our engagement (she even asked if I had a ring and if she could see it!). We’re both based in the Philippines so she also asked where he lives and what is his job. It wasn’t required since he’s officially not the one who made my attestation but I voluntarily presented photocopies of the front and back of his passport as well as the pages that show his entries here in the Philippines and the entries that show our travels to other countries together (5 Asian Countries in my case). I think it helped to establish the validity of our relationship. The embassy is forever on the lookout for possible mail order/internet brides kasi kaya I think they have so many questions. I strongly suggest you ask your BF to scan his passport and the pages that shows his entry to the Philippines and the time you travelled together.
I also had on hand (but I didn’t submit) photocopies of the passports of his dad and 2 brothers who have all been to the Philippines to visit us just in case the embassy still had suspicions about my relationship with my fiance and his mom who made the attestation. Other questions asked to me were if we had plans to marry in France or here in Philippines and when. She also inquired a lot about what type of work my fiance does.
Thank you so much Kuting for all the informations and advices. Now, i will ask him to scan his traveled in here and also to Thailand. He scan already the requirements for applying the Attestation (TAX,HOUSE CONTRACT,PAY SLIP FOR 3 MONTHS,ELECTRICITY BILLING,NATIONAL ID and copy that his really applying for attestation & soon he will email the embassy and explaining everything & he will send it to me as invitation letter) coz he didn’t got it coz there is a quota in Mayotte Island. So, his aunt sister of his mama the one who gave me attestation and invitation letter,National ID,plus his mama invitation letter & national ID too.Actually I got pregnant but we lost our baby, so i might include that too w/my medical records. by the way how much money do u have in the bank? thanks again…and how did u answer for all the questions? I am a little bit nervous.
