As much as I love traveling, packing had never been my favorite thing to do. Even if I have a packing list I’ve referred to since my first solo trip, I could never be done in a few minutes. I would procrastinate and finally end up sleepless the night before my trip. It’s really bad if it’s a scuba trip with early dives scheduled the next day.
The thing is I’m not a very organized person and I struggle to carry minimal items. I used to just pile everything on top of each other when I pack. So needless to say, it was chaos every time I needed to take something out. I was very enlightened a few years ago when a travel mate taught me to organize my stuff using plastic bags. Shirts in one bag, bottoms in another, and so on. Wow, that was definitely a light bulb moment for me.
Packing had become easier since but surely plastic bag has its limitation, specially if one has bad memory and can’t remember which color plastic holds which item. That’s why I didn’t waste time when I first learned of mesh type packing cubes revolutionized by Eagle Creek. It remains one of my best travel companion keeping everything in order and even packing has become easier. So even if I procrastinate and start late, I can do it faster.
How about you? I know there are those people who love packing and do it way ahead of time. Please share your tried and tested solution and have a chance to win one Eagle Creek Organized Traveler Cube Set still courtesy of our favorite store R.O.X. Philippines.

Hi Joan. I’m sorry there was indeed some comments that were deleted during the migration yesterday. I just checked my email and found that a bunch of the 12 & 13 March comments. I will compare the comments here and that of in my email and will fix the list. Thanks for pointing it out and for coming back to give tips. Good luck!
Thanks! Will also share my last tip tonight. :)
For those who find a hard time fitting all their clothes in their luggage, a good tip would be to bring different items that goes with practically everything. Lesser number of clothes to pack, but a whole wardrobe nonetheless.
pack smaller clothes (shorts, cotton shirt or sleeveless) , a nice easy to match pair of jeans and one jacket.
Leave some room or space in your bag for souvenirs. I suggest u buy clothes for souvenirs.. my souvenirs are often clothing which I can wear home and don’t have to pack, like a shirt! And if you find you were too OC about packing light and u get short of clothes, then u’ve killed 2 birds with one stone by getting an extra shirt and a souvenir. hehe
A handy mini folding toothbrush is a must. I always bring one. True story.
Carry the light, right clothes! The clothes u’ll bring on ur trip are crucial to light, smart packing. ;p
Pack less and tackle the amount of stuff you’re taking.
I always make a list! and I make sure to check it twice! I edit it down. Way Down! to make sure i wont forget the essentials!
Make a travel packing checklist, not a list of items to pack on any particular trip! Rather, it is a sort of ‘worst case’ list of stuff that you could sensibly consider.
