Travel to South Korea
South Korea has become a popular travel destination for Filipinos. I believe this is due to cheap flights are available all year round with increasing number of budget airlines. It also helps that South Korea have eased up their visa policy to attract more tourists.
My whole family visited Seoul in April, 2014. And because we wanted to avoid paying sizable service fees to travel agency who charges per head, we decided to do it ourselves. So here it is, your guide on
How to apply Korean Tourist Visa in the Philippines
To apply South Korean tourist visa in the Philippines is very easy and straight forward. That is, if you have fund to show and complete requirement. It is even easier if you are considered a frequent traveler.
FREQUENT TRAVELERS are defined as persons who have traveled to any OECD member countries within the last 5 years. Note that unused visa doesn’t count. The OECD member countries are US and Canada, Japan, Schengen member states, and the United Kingdom. There is a fast track window dedicated for such applicants.
Those who have traveled to South Korea 3x or more within the last 4 years are also considered frequent travelers.
As with all my visa application for Philippine passport holders posts, I’ll only be focusing on TOURIST VISA. If you are working, studying, or marrying, this post will not be useful. You can find the requirements in the consular section of the South Korean Embassy’s official website.

Korean Embassy’s issue with yayas and caregivers
It is almost impossible to secure a Korean visa for your yaya, caregiver, or nurse.
When we applied for the whole family in April, we included my father’s caregiver who have traveled with us to China, Taiwan, and other Southeast Asian countries. Her passport is filled with travel stamps, yet despite writing guarantee and letter of financial support for her, they still wouldn’t issue her visa.
It took 5 trips to the embassy (2 hours drive away during rush hour, not to mention wasting gasoline), each time presenting new required document, for us to realize they are not going to issue her visa.
In the end I got a Korean friend to guarantee for the caregiver. And so I learned that the Koreans have issue with the Filipino traveling with yaya or caregiver. They find it arrogant. The consul said that “if my father can’t walk, he should just stayed home.” He said it in a joking manner but obviously I know for sure it was 100% meant. What an a$$hole. I don’t know if this is an acceptable attitude of a Korean country representative abroad. But he issued me the visa anyway. So I let it pass.
hi,
the travel agency applied my korean visa last feb 5, 2016 and it was denied.. stating U FAILED TO PROVE THE PURPOSE OF ENTRY TO KOREA.. i submmitted the requirements coz self employed po ako ang ITR pinasa q ay form 1701.. wla po ako ITR 2316.. ano ang conflict po nya dito s form n ito.. hindi q din po alam kung n evaluate ng travel agency ang application q bago nila nsubmit.. meron ako nkblank don ksi sbi nila sila n lng magfill up… di po nklagay san hotel to stay ksi sila nman nk alam.. ano po kya ang kulang qs requirements napasa.. sino po may idea pki explain nman s akin ang form 1701 and form 2316.. nirebook q po ang ticket q for october 2016 together with my daughter again.. apply po ako ulit for tourist visa..TIA
denied ung visa ko. may nakapagtry na ba dito magappeal? tumawag sakin ung sm company . i bought a global package kasi for their hallyu tour . they can provide me visa assistance daw. kaso diba 6 months pa ulit reapply in case nadeny? do u think its worth it pa na magpunta ako embassy to appeal to get my visa granted. tourist lang naman talaga ung purpose ko.
Non standard siya but I think it is possible to go and appeal. If you read my blog I said that my dad’s nurse was initially denied but we appealed and wrote guarantee letter.
Hi! Are there any additional requirements for students applying for a tourist visa in SK? Also, how long is the validity of the visa? Thank you! :)
hi, maybe you can add DTI cert, mayor’s / bisuness permit, etc if u have one and dont leave unanswered questions you can put not applicable instead. itr 1701 is ok, thats what we’re using too, we are also self employed. also why dont you try completing your application form by yourself just go to the embassy’s website, its fillable online. hope this help…

Hi SIr JB, I’m recently employed in an oil and gas company which has an agency here in the philippines. And I’m appointed to work in Geoje, South Korea and they will apply for a C-3-4 Business visa from march 1 to may 31. One of the requirements that bothered me was the Original bank certificate and Original or certified true copy of bank statements / passbook for the last three (3) months. The company told me that i should have at least 100k in my account. To my worry i have no 100k in my balance. So I borrowed money from my sister abroad, and planned to deposit 20k daily til feb 10. Okay lang po ba isang bagsakan? di po ba mahahalata ng korean embassy yun? im really worried about this. I hope you reply.
May boyfriend is also working in Oil and Gas insudtry sa Geoje. Do you have a payslip or payroll account? as long na nakita naman nila na may every month kang dumadating na pera, okay lang kahit less than 100K
PS. Make sure na complete na requirements mo from company para aprroved and hindi kana pabalik balik sa embassy :)
Hi Ms. Ruby, Yup! Payroll account po gamit ko! :) thank you very much! pinawala mo kaba ko.hehehe JGC din ba sya? hehehe
Hello! Me and my friend just want to ask, it will be our first time to travel abroad and possibly want to go to SoKor. Do we have a chance to be approved for tourist visa? Minimum amount ng bank account namin roughly 30k. Okay lang ba yun ? And is it necessary to put plane itenirary and hotel reservation as well? I have read on other blogs na hihingin nila ung contact number ng hotel. I hope for your answer. Thank you so much! Great blog!
in our case i just put undecided yet for the hotel, dont bother for the flight, they wont care much if u have return tickets. for the hotel number since i put undecided so its not applicable yet. just had our 5 yrs visa thru bpi gold promo.
Hi Violeta Corcuera,
Did u just follow BPI ‘s requirement on their promo? Did u write yes in the questionare that BPI is your sponsor? Planning to apply with my kids on May 26. Got my tickets already for Oct 24 travel.
Hello Jasz- tanong ko lang, na-approve ba ang visa mo? First time ko lang dn kc mag travel abroad. Worried dn ako bka di ma-approve visa ko. How was your application? Thanks!
HI guys! asked ko lang to those people who already travelled to SK.
Meron ba kayong requirements na prinesent sa IMMIGRATION sa NAIA?
Pwede malaman kung ano ano ang mga yun?
Takot ako ma offload sayang effort ko!
Don’t be scared po :) Pero to be prepared, bring the copy of documents you submitted to the embassy when you appied for a visa this is not neccessary.. just in case :)
Thanks for your blog! I just want advice on the ff concerns po:
a) do we need to put a signature on the photocopy of our passport 2nd page?
b.) insert my old passport (2008-2012) since i have travel records there?
c.) we are a family of three, …what will we put on the funding support – (financial? personal? family?)
d.) I have 2 bank certs and statements – BDO (previous worker 4 years) and Metrobank (new Job 6 months) is it ok to put them both on my application?
Many thanks and god bless!
Hello ask ko lg po, i already had all the requiremnts and im currently employed nmn but the one who will be paying for my sister and my travel expenses is my father. Does it matter if ang father ko ang inilagay ko sa application form ng mg pay ng travel expenses namn? Kahit na hindi xa kasama sa trip? I already pass the application and yesterday and im a bit worried.thanks
hi, base on my experience if your father would be the one sponsoring you and your sister you should have included all the necessary documents – like his employment cert, bank cert, bank statement, payslip, ITR, etc., to prove that he has capacity to fund your trip. also included was applicant/s nso birth cert to prove the relation.
Hi! Can I just ask what happened to your application? Same situation, currently employed pero my father would be the one sponsoring my trip, yung requirements ko pa din ba is under employed tapos additional requirements ng father ko and proof of relationship??
Hi, I just want to ask ,pwede bang magapply ng southkorean tourist visa, kahit wala kang maipakitang properties dito sa pilipinas.
Okay lang naman Lloyd kahit wala kng properties basta may work ka:)
