Travel to South Korea
South Korea has become a popular travel destination for Filipinos. I believe this is due to cheap flights are available all year round with increasing number of budget airlines. It also helps that South Korea have eased up their visa policy to attract more tourists.
My whole family visited Seoul in April, 2014. And because we wanted to avoid paying sizable service fees to travel agency who charges per head, we decided to do it ourselves. So here it is, your guide on
How to apply Korean Tourist Visa in the Philippines
To apply South Korean tourist visa in the Philippines is very easy and straight forward. That is, if you have fund to show and complete requirement. It is even easier if you are considered a frequent traveler.
FREQUENT TRAVELERS are defined as persons who have traveled to any OECD member countries within the last 5 years. Note that unused visa doesn’t count. The OECD member countries are US and Canada, Japan, Schengen member states, and the United Kingdom. There is a fast track window dedicated for such applicants.
Those who have traveled to South Korea 3x or more within the last 4 years are also considered frequent travelers.
As with all my visa application for Philippine passport holders posts, I’ll only be focusing on TOURIST VISA. If you are working, studying, or marrying, this post will not be useful. You can find the requirements in the consular section of the South Korean Embassy’s official website.

Korean Embassy’s issue with yayas and caregivers
It is almost impossible to secure a Korean visa for your yaya, caregiver, or nurse.
When we applied for the whole family in April, we included my father’s caregiver who have traveled with us to China, Taiwan, and other Southeast Asian countries. Her passport is filled with travel stamps, yet despite writing guarantee and letter of financial support for her, they still wouldn’t issue her visa.
It took 5 trips to the embassy (2 hours drive away during rush hour, not to mention wasting gasoline), each time presenting new required document, for us to realize they are not going to issue her visa.
In the end I got a Korean friend to guarantee for the caregiver. And so I learned that the Koreans have issue with the Filipino traveling with yaya or caregiver. They find it arrogant. The consul said that “if my father can’t walk, he should just stayed home.” He said it in a joking manner but obviously I know for sure it was 100% meant. What an a$$hole. I don’t know if this is an acceptable attitude of a Korean country representative abroad. But he issued me the visa anyway. So I let it pass.
Hello! what if I put 4 days on the travel stay but the truth is 5 days talaga balak ko? does it affect? because 40k lang laman ng bank account ko and Ive heard na depende ang show money kung ilang days ka magsstay sa korea. Mind you If I ask how much is the amount of your bank account and how many days you stayed?and about the COE, does it need to be addressed to Korean Embassy? Should be insider an envelope? Thanks! I look forward to hear from you soon.

hello!
we’ll be applying as a family (brother, sister-in-law and me) my brother and his wife both have oecd visas, but for me, matagal ng expired US visa ko :( I went to korea na din last 2009. we are all dentists and we recently opened a clinic (under a corporation). the catch is, wala pa ako ITR since i started working last July 2015. Will I submit our forms all together in one window? LOL. i can support my trip, pero wala lang talaga kasi akong ITR pa :) they both have bdo gold cc. may chance pa din ba na madeny ako since i dont have an ITR? un lang naman kulang ko sa requirements under self-employed.thank you for your help :)
It has been many months since you are asking about your visa. Go for it Ms. Dentist!
If i’m not mistaken, you’re the one with a sister, who is also a dentist, that got denied? May I ask why she got denied? And is she employed or self employed? :) thank you.
We really don’t know the reason why she got denied even the requirements are complete, she is employed in a hospital with a clinic and has her own clinic too.
The embassy gave her a slip “failed to prove the purpose of entry”
Now she got her visa with the help of out family travel agent.
Omg. Kinabahan naman ako sa application ko :( consistent naman lahat ng documents niya? From itr to bank accounts?
Wag kana kabahan. Apply kana, feel ko maapprove ka talaga ;)
I just had my visa (multiple entry)..I didn’t pass any ITR ☺ I just passed application form,COE (with only 8k compensation since I work in a ministry based institution), photocopy of used SK visa (i went last 2014),bank certificate, photocopy of my credit card and its statement of account, and hotel reservation.
may client ako na nasa korea ngayon. tourist sya ‘don. ang pag kakaalam ko 2-3 months lang pag tourist. is it possible na mag extend sya dun for 6 months? please I need your feedback, malaki pagkakautang nya sa company namin. what to do para mapauwi sya?
mahigpit na ang immigration dito s korea ngayon. d na sila basta nlng mg extend without valid reasons kpg tourist( kadalasan s mga naeextend ung mga parents or family ng filipina with korean husbands, extended sila til 1 yr)… depende nlng s kakilala mo kng mag TNT xa dto.. If that happens ireport mo sa korean embassy para mahanap xa dto at ipa deport…
.hope this helps..

Hi ask ko lang. We are traveling this june 2016 to korea. I just passed the board exam last august and hindi pa naka work. Will they still need my itr? And how many months before travel time do u have to apply na? Thank u
Hi Cheane! Nag-apply kana? If yes, what requirements did you submit? Since you do not have work and ITR. Are you travelling with your family?
pag nprocess na ang visa, either denied or approved, pwde ba yan ipadala sa courier or kelangan personal ang pagclaim?
Hi, if you cannot submit and claim it on your own, you can use travel agencies service
Hi Wanderlass,
I am a frequent traveler but it will be the first time for my mom and brother to travel abroad. I will be the one to finance my mom to SK because she doesn’t any financial documents (bank statement and ITR). Would you know if we will be allowed to submit our applications as a group and on window 3? Thank you!
yes it is allowed.
