Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.

How much is Schengen Visa?Â
The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend?  Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them.  These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

Hi! Ask ko lang po before magsubmit requirements for tourist visa need naba may plane ticket, insurance and all the details of travel? And any idea po ng additional requirements kasi nag-aaral pa ako d2 philippines, full time student.thanks!
Hello Wanderlass :) she is 21yo Filipina I’m 22yo French, we are student without incomes, she is from a poor family so she even has not bank account but my family in France is quite rich. We want to stay 3 months in France, I already paid the plane ticket (and I can’t cancel it…), my girlfriend will ask for a tourism visa, she has an “attestation d’accueil” from my mother who agrees to pay all the expenditures. I have read on French forums that’s it’s almost impossible for a young and poor Filipina to get a tourism visa… Do you think incomes proofs of my mother are enough? We are so worried now… Thanks
Normally the attestation d’accueil should be enough to grant her a visa, but sometimes you don’t know what these people are thinking. I know of a girl who got denied Schengen Visa because the embassy (Spanish) thinks that she will not leave Europe after her 3 months time.
Thanks for your reply. You confirm my doubts, the common refusal reason is:
“9. your intention to leave the territory of the Member States before the expiry of the visa could not be ascertained”
I think they say that to all girls who want to go to Europe to be with their boyfriends…
Hello, Nalilito lang ako
I want to travel to japan korea and eu countries soon.
Ok ba ako mag Apply ng tourist visa like schengen visa, Korean visa and japan visa sa HongKong. im currently working here in mAcau. and im a non resident worker here.
Please clarify it forme.. pag sa pinas lasi magapply sayang ang annual leave ko which is iniipon ko. Salamat and More power
God Bless.
if u r not a legal resident of a country, chances are you cannot apply visa there (Europe and Japan at least, I don’t know Korea). u can call the embassy to confirm.
thank you wanderlass .. so still its need to apply and process in Phil… Thanks for clarifying it for me. hope to see more good article related on travel in this site. :)
Hello…I hope you could help me with this. I got a Schengen Visa already, just for tourism (leisure), the main destination is Oslo, Norway…do you think I can visit Paris too? Thanks much.
Hi DANRINE, was it easy to get a Visa in Oslo? Are you visiting a family there? Kasi I want to visit someone there next year sa Oslo din. Thanks
hi.. im so happy to see this site, tamang tama kc un bf ko pinapapunta ako s paris, and he want na doon kami mgpakasal.. just one question, ganu ktagal ang validity ng Schengen Visa ?? ?
Hi luka, schengen is valid for max of 6 mos.
hi guys got my visa today!! exactly 5 business day :) im ready to see france, luxembourg, germany, netherlands belgium and back to paris :)
If you dont mind me asking, how much did you put in your bank statement? Is it ok to only have 150k in my bank statement or will I need more? I hope you can help me with this. Thanks. Anyways, Congrats! :)
Depends on how many days you are applying for. If one month or less I think 150k is ok. There is no writeup anywhere on how much you need to show. But my guess is about 1500euro per month if you will be shouldering 100% of your trip. The main reason is they don’t want you to run out of money while in Europe and start looking for job illegally.
Hello wanderlass! I will be traveling to Paris with my grandmother, however she is retired so she has no proof of income. How much should she show in her bank statement/certification? I’m estimating that the trip will cost around 300K Php so would 500K bank statement be sufficient? Also, she has a US Visa. Will this improve her chances of getting her Schengen visa approved?
i asked the bank to issue me my bank statement.. they included all my chequing and savings account plus my retirement savings plan and also my credit cards.. basically they showed my total assets and liabilities on that set of papers the financial adviser gave me… wanderlass is right, every schengen state has different requirement on how much allowance you should have in a day… for instance youll be needing at least 120 euros a day in france and 90euros a day in germany..you should look it up on the internet
hello ASIANFLIP….. its easy to have a torist visa, i have no proof that i will comeback in the phil, whats the advice u can give to me? thanks
hi cezzy, just complete all the requirements that they are asking for.. as wanderlass mentioned it on the post above.. i just submitted the complete requirements and the lady just asked 2 questions.. 1. which schengen state are you visiting 2. who are you travelling with? in my case i was planning to travel alone which i did.. then she told me it should be fine and she asked me for my passport and told me come back after 5 days then i got my visa on the scheduled date.. i just came back from europe and im planning to go back again next year hopefully..
what if I am an adult but still a student and plan to go in europe for a vacation?
staying with a friend. But what kind of proof of “employment” should i present? I do not own any properties that i can present on my own. is parent supporting details okay? i will submit their papers?
Hi Wanderlass! Thank you for this very informative blog post!
My friends and I are planning a trip through France, Spain, Italy, and Greece in November. We stated in our itinerary that we intend to go through these countries via Eurail and a flight from Santorini to Paris at the end of our trip, before returning back to our respective base countries (Manila for my friends, Singapore for me). We have already booked our round trip tickets to France, but do we also need to purchase and present our Eurail pass and Santorini-Paris flight bookings for the Schengen Visa application since these are included in the itinerary? Thanks in advance for your help!
thanx miss WANDERLASS and miss CHARM…….wish us luck for our interview…..GOD BLESS EVERYONE!
hi! me and my wife scheduled for an interview this oct 4 at the french embassy, we are invited by my parents as couple….i manage my parents ricelands,so can i use my parents land titles as proof of my source of income?….if so, do i need to have special power of attorney to be attached with the land titles? lastly is it ok if khit october 10 po yung date na nkalagay sa atestation d’accueil flexible po ba iyon……..tnx po! hoping for a better advise…god bless
i think the birth certificate should be enough to prove relation to your parents. i don’t know what date you mean on the atestation but it should be fine if u have 1.
kasi po oct 4 po ung appointment tapos oct 10 po yung asa attestation i mean po is movable po ba iyon….sori for being makulit 1st time to apply po….i dont have any business po, hahanapan po ba kaya ako ng source of my income?
Hi rye, i guess you can prepare bank cert in case they will ask for any source of financials but usually if via invitation, its the host who is showing the financial proof that he/she can support you and your wife for the entire trip.
Hi rye! Were your visa approved by the French emb?
