Applying Schengen Visa from French Embassy Online
The process in applying for Schengen Visa through the French Embassy has changed since I applied in 2007 and 2011. It is now more efficient with the submission of documents done online.
Every information you need is now available on the new France-Visas website. After filling the visa application form, you will be redirected to the on-line appointment and tracking systems of VFS Global.
Philippine passport holders are required Schengen visa to visit one or more of the states in the Schengen Region in Europe. This visa is valid in all Schengen states for a stay of up to 90 days within a six-month period for a visit, tourism or business. It is not valid for employment.

When to apply for Schengen Visa?
Applications can be made earliest three (3) months before the planned entry.
How much is Schengen Visa?Â
The visa-processing fee is EUR 60. The fee is non-refundable even if application is unsuccessful.
What are the requirements in applying Schengen Visas?
1. Signed and filled up Schengen Visa Application Form (click this) with photo attached, plus 1 additional photo.
Photo Specification
- Color photo taken against white background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering
- The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
2. Valid passport with 3 months validity from the end of visa duration. Photo copy of valid and former visas, if any.
3. Cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip and detailed itinerary. If you don’t have this, you have to write one on the spot before they will accept your requirements. Here is the cover letter addressed to the Honorable Consul I made in 2007.
4. Details of your trip
- Round trip ticket reservation. Reservations only.
- Itinerary of the whole duration including departure and arrival dates.
- Accommodations – hotel vouchers, seriously. If you’re staying with a good friend who is a French resident/national, then you need them to provide you with something called Attestation d’accueil (Certificate of Board and Lodging) and your host’s national identity card or residence permit.
Why I said good friend?  Because it’s a lot of trouble for them to get this. If you have a French national host, just cut and paste below list for the document you needed from them.  These are basically records of their existence in France such as title of property or contract of lease, utility billing statement as address proof, bank statements, medical records, pay slip, and finally they have to go to the city hall to have all these certified. Like I said, lots of trouble. :)
The attestation d’accueil is a form needed to be presented to the City Hall with the following documents:
5. Proof of employment
- Certificate of employment stating monthly salary and approved leave of absence.
- If self employed, official business registration for current and previous year.
6. Proof of Income
- Income Tax Return
- Recent Bank Certification
- Photocopy of the last 3 months statement of Account of the same bank account.
- If someone other than yourself is paying for the the trip, then submit financial document of the sponsor instead.
7. Identity / Marital Status:
- Photocopy of First page of Passport and all relevant obtained visas
- Authenticated birth certificate from NSO. If married, bring photocopy of your marriage contract.
8. Travel insurance that covers the entire duration of your intended stay with minimun coverage EUR 30,000. The medical policies must state the following points :
- Medical attention and treatment will be given in case of illness or accident
- The injured or ill traveller can be transported home for treatment + body repatriation in case of death
- The insurance coverage is a least 30 000 euros (50 000 US dollars)
- The insurance must be valid for all 25 Schengen member states which should be listed on the policy
- The insurance company must be re-insured, the name of the re-insurer and his TOLL FREE phone number must be listed on the policy
- The policy must allow CASHLESS SETTLEMENTS of claims. The name of the company in charge of such settlements and their toll free number must be clearly stated on the policy.

Hi Wanderlass, I am planning to travel to 10 countries in europe with my colleagues this coming March 28 – April 10 and lately, I noticed that my passport is about to expire on April 29, 2014. I am going to extend my passport validity for 1 year by first week of February. Is it possible to enter europe even for a passport extension of 1 year?
I think it’s better to renew your passport.
NOT REPLY FOR MY CONCERNS :(
Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months when you apply for most visas.
Hi everyone, I want to ask advice because I’m planning to get schengen visa to visit my boyfriend in Lithuania. I’m only graduating on march and I don’t have any bank accounts and job yet. I will go there on May to July. What can I bring as a proof that I am going back here in Philippines? He will shoulder all expenses during my stay. And where can I find reservation for tickets? :)
I’m thanking you guys in advance for the help! God Bless! :)
Just want to know if I can proceed without an ITR?
If you have other form of financial document. Bank certificate. ITR of the person supporting your trip (parents, sibling, boyfriend, etc)
I will resign soon on my current company, though my family has its own company, or may use my friend’s company to pretend I work there. I wonder how can I do without ITR? Does the ITR reveal which company you are working for? I have my own bank account, you think 400k is enough to sponsor myself? I will stay for 1-2 months with free stay c/o my boyfriend.
if you have previous work, you should have last year’s itr.
Good pm po.. Does the biometrics have to do about skin allery.? I was worried about my right thumb..
i dont think so

i had a very bad experience at the french embassy today. i was at the 8:30AM appointment and there are a lot of people who were scheduled at that time. The waiting part was okay. When my name was called at window 2, it was a Filipino case officer who was there. He asked basic questions and finally asked me for the visa fee. He then asked me to wait for my name to be called again.
After a few minutes, my name was called at window 5 (or 6? I can’t really remember which window it is but it is the rightmost window. The case officer was a middle-aged woman, maybe in her mid-40s, a Filipina, wearing spectacles, who looked very stern. She asked me certain details about the trip like who am I going with, how long my stay is, and who’s sponsoring the trip. As she scanned the documents, she removed some which she said was irrelevant. That’s fine with me, I just thought it would be useful to include other pages of your passports with stamps, return tickets and other documents relevant to my sponsor. You see, the trip will be sponsored by my aunt who are Australian citizens. We are actually traveling to UK and will just spend two days in Paris. I provided all supporting financial documents of my aunt since she will be paying for all expenses. In addition to this, I have also included my own financial documents like ITR, payslips, Certificates of Employment and Compensation, and bank certificate with 200k available balance. The only document that I failed to submit is a bank statement showing transactions for the past 2 months. This, I admit, is my remiss, as I was not able to request this from the bank. However, these are the same set of documents I submitted to VFS and a visa was issued to me successfully so I thought yeah maybe this will run smoothly. So when she asked me why did I not include a bank statement, I said, “I’m sorry ma’am but these are all I got at the moment. I thought this would suffice since my travel and living expenses will be fully sponsored by my aunt.” She then retorted, “But you do know that you are being evaluated based on your credentials and not your aunt, right? You read that on the requirements checklist, right?” I was really speechless when she said that. At the back of my mind, I already imagined her marking my application “Denied” without even considering the other attachments and documents I included in the application. She really sounded very condescending. It’s as if she’s judging me behind those rimmed spectacles. She proceeded with taking my biometrics then after a few seconds, she said, “I’m going to keep your passport for a while and you’ll return on this date to claim your result”, while motioning to the piece of paper where she wrote “January 21, 2014, 11:00 AM”. Then I responded, “Ok ma’am thanks for your time.” I feigned a weak smile and exited the half-open cubicle.
I felt really bad after my interview with that case officer. For a Pinay who handles visa applications, she is very condescending. I don’t know if that’s really how case officers act, maybe they were supposed to be that way, I don’t know, but that experience is really horrible. Plus the fact that she was talking to me via the mini-PA system. I assume everyone is listening coz I can hear the others she interviewed. It seems to me that she’s so full of herself, and since she’s in that position, she is aimed at humiliating everyone who begs for her mercy. I was able to say that because that was how she was handling the other applicants- plus maybe she enjoys speaking on that PA system for all the world to hear. I was able to compare my experience with those who were called in other windows with other case officers and mine was way below the mark specifically with the way she treated me. Mind you, one of the other case officers was not a Filipino-national, maybe French? Point is, I thought Filipinos would be more accommodating when dealing with fellow Filipinos especially those with genuine intent in applying for their visas.
I don’t know what the result will be. I am really trying to be positive about this because God knows I executed everything in good faith. But then there’s this case officer and perhaps my dreams of visiting Paris were easily ushered down the drain.
I think you will be given visa. I experienced the same before, not the condescending part, but I did not bring insurance. I propose that you bring the document on the day your return to claim your visa. I agree with you that sometimes there are Filipino consular assistants who feel like they’re above the applicants–as if they’re the visa granter.
in which insurance company did you acquire your travel insurance & how much did you pay for it?
Hello wanderlass,
I am a filipina living in japan.i want to go France for vacation for 2weeks.whats my requirements for this?
Aris had you got the visa ??
Aris what happen to your application?
Hi! I appreciate you writing this very informative blog, it’s a huge help, believe me! :)
I wanted to ask you about my requirements since I will be filing my visa application the 31st of January, this year. I’m wondering if adding my son’s birth certificate to my application would boost my “rootedness to my home country” or will this just prove otherwise that I would certainly would want to go on “TNT” since I have a son to look after to?
Thank you!!
I don’t know if it will be relevant. But if you have it, just bring it with you. On my first application, they asked for a copy of my travel companion’s passport.

HI wanderlass,
Nainterview po ako s norway embassy last monday.. im not really sure kung pasado ako or not. what happened was that i got to the embassy prepared all the documents based on what i read dito sa blog sa baba ung unang step document checking and appoinmtnet checking, but what happened last monday was diffferent. sa baba pa lang andun na din ung interview. yung naginterview sakin is masungit doesnt smile and really strict. Her questions was
how much did i pay for my ticket- i said 2000$, she wanted me to say it in peso im not away of us currency
what is my airline- i wasnt aware about the airline that was in my booking reservation but i remembered the travel agency who booked my flight said it was ethad airways but when i check it it was klm royal airlines (hayz)
what was my bestfriend salary –
why isnt she paying for my travel i said that i dont ask information like that because its confidential unless she discloses the information to me and regarding the travel expenses i had enough saving for my travel thats why im paying for my travel.
my bestfriends address in norway but didnt memorize her address all i know was she is in oslo norway. after those question tinatakan nya yung passport and papers ko ng c/d visa no, and asked me to go to 21st floor for biometrics. Its been 3days and im not sure what my status is, im afraid to check on my email because i might get a denied result.
;(
Hi. Can you please give me an idea How much should be in the bank cert to get the high approval?
Another thing is the hotel booking a must to present when you are applying a visa or it can be done later on once granted?
When my mom applied her for her visa thru a travel agency (she did group tour), they proposed at least 500k. But when I applied in 2007, my certificate was only for 200K.
