How to apply for South African Visa in the Philippines?
It was a bit of a challenge looking for information online as there is no website of South African Embassy in the Philippines. But I found the requirements without having to go through a travel agency.
My experience was quite smooth sailing. The consular assistant was really friendly to me. There were only standard questions asked and I told her about my booking a flight on a whim and seemed to appreciate the story. She received my application and asked me to collect it one week later.  I got 28 days visa per my application. But actually I stayed 29 days!
Anyway, here you go, 3-Step guide on how to get a South Africa visa for Philippine Passport holders.

Proof of sufficient funds e.g. 3 months bank statement, bank book, certificate (original and certified copy) – what is the alternative if you don’t have this? Thank you.
how are you going to finance your trip? if you have sponsor then the document from your sponsor.
Hi everyone, I just got my visa after 2 months and I’d just like to share some things about my experience:
1. I had to go back 5 times to the embassy, which was a big hassle since I live 1-2 hours away and had to take a leave from work.
2. Ms. Custodio can be moody but she can also be really kind. She was nice to me but I think she has a lot of things on her plate which causes delays etc.
3. It is EXTREMELY hard to reach the embassy/Ms. Custodio via phone. Aside from the phone lines being always busy or calls being dropped, they have strict schedules for receiving calls.
4. The guard is very strict. I arrived 15 mins before schedule to avoid the line and I was asked to wait at the building lobby. He told me to go back at the exact time because I wasn’t allowed to enter or stay in the hallway. It was just weird because when I came back at the exact time, he had already let 3 people inside so I still had to queue.
5. There are few people applying for SA visas. The longest I had to wait (in the 5 times I went there) was 40 mins. The fastest was 5 mins.
4. Try to apply for your visa 2-3 months before leaving, to avoid being stressed. I got my visa 2 weeks before I’m scheduled to leave, and I was already extremely stressed. I can’t imagine how those who got it a few hours before their flight must have felt.
Good luck to everyone applying for a visa!
Hi! My mom will be visiting her friend who is a natural born citizen of South Africa and her friend would like to sponsor her for a one month tourist visa. Does my mom need an employment certificate if she didn’t go to work after all but she has a proof of sufficient funds in her bank account for the last 5 yrs? Also, how about the trip itinerary with hotel booking? Like I said, her friend will be the one to sponsor her, so my mom would like to stay in her friend’s house rather than staying at the hotel. Do you think it is possible? I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon wanderlass :) Thanks and Godbless!
such a great help and very informative :) thanks wanderlass! x
