UK Visa for Philippine Passport Holders
It was a week ago that I revealed my RTW plans and the beginning of my quest for visas. Every Filipino who have experienced applying visas to Japan, US and Europe (Schengen, UK) can relate to this agony. I went through both before but it doesn’t get easier. Since I’m going through the whole process again, I thought I’d make an outline to give future Filipino applicants a starting point. Digging through pages and pages of requirements can truly cause nausea, no kidding. So here you go, a blow by blow account on how to apply for UK Visa for Philippine Passport Holders.
UK VISA
The United Kingdom (UK) is composed of the following 4 countries: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. As a Filipino passport holder, let it be a default to assume we needed visa to travel anywhere outside Southeast Asia. UK is no exception. There are several visa types but I’ll be focusing on Tourist Visa. UK visa is applied through official partner VFS Global.
My focus will only be the application of UK Visa For Philippine Passport holders applying for TOURIST VISA. If you’re studying, working, marrying, or visiting family, I’m sure there’s a whole other bunch of stuff you need to prepare. I can’t help you with it, sorry.
Restrictions in visiting UK as a tourist:
- Visit to UK cannot be for more than six (6) months;
- Leave the UK at the end of your visit;
- Have enough money to support yourself during your stay in the UK without working or needing help from public funds.
- Will not take paid or unpaid employment.
- Will not marry or register a civil partnership, or give notice of marriage or civil partnership.
- Will not get private medical treatment.
When to Apply for UK Visa?
As with most countries, UK visa can be applied maximum of 3 months before intended entry.
Where to Apply for UK Visa?
There are 2 parts in UK Visa Application: (1) Online Application (2) Appointment to submit biometric and supporting documents.
You’ll need to have in hand your passport, UK address (hotel booking or friend’s address), email address and begin your online visa application. You’ll need to go through the following:
- register for an account
- fill in the application form in English
- pay for the visa fee online (in most cases)
- print out your form
- book and attend an appointment at a visa application centre
You also need to:
- have all the supporting documents you need for your visa
- translate any supporting documents and include them with the originals if they aren’t in English
What to bring to the Appointment?
- A printed and signed copy of your online visa application form
- Your current valid passport Note: The UK Border Agency will retain your passport until they have reached a decision on your visa application. Bear in mind if you have travel plans before going to UK.
- Previous passports
- Original supporting documents, with photocopies and translations
- Printed copy of the supporting document checklist
- Payment or proof of payment of visa application fee.
- 1 recent photograph (not more than 6 months old) according to below specification.
Photograph Strict Specification
- Taken against a light grey or cream background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering unless worn for religious or medical reasons. The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
What are supporting documents?
Simply put, these are documents that show evidence that you have ties in the Philippines and that you are coming back–job, family ties, properties, etc.
Also documents that shows you are capable of supporting yourself while in UK without the need to find employment–Bank statements, certificates, employment payslip, credit cards, etc.
You also need to submit details of accommodation plans and trip itinerary. However, please don’t pay for your accommodation until visa is issued.
All these should be submitted during the appointment. No further documents will be accepted after. Now, while the absence of these documents may result in unsuccessful visa application, submission does not guarantee visa issuance. More info on UK Visa Supporting Document
If you’re not paying for your own way, or have friend(s) in UK who will support you, you should present them with the following documents:
- Valid Citizen/Residence ID or Passport
- Bank Statement
- Address and contact details
- Invitation letter stating their support
How much is UK Visa for Philippine Passport Holders? Where to pay for UK Visa? (Updated 2-Sept-2014)
Tourist Visa {short term up to 6 months} costs £83 to apply.
Since December 17, 2012, visa fee can only be made online. It will form as part of the online application process. When all items are filled up, you will be directed to the website of WorldPay where you have the choice to pay with Visa or Mastercard. They no longer accept payment in person like I did before.
Waiting for Result
If there are no further delays (lacking or unverifiable document), you should have result in approximately 4-5 working days. Track your application through the free Application Status Tool. You can collect documents personally or have the option to have it delivered to your home by paying Php 450. You also get an SMS saying it’s on its way.
Update: So lesson learned, if you are planning to visit in summer, you have to apply earlier. March and April is really hectic. I received mine in 15 days. This is also because of the Royal Wedding coming up on April 29, 2011.

UK Visa for Filipino Passport Holders kicks off the Visa for Pinoy Series I’m starting in this blog. Here’s hoping it will be a good starting point in your application. I had to go through labyrinth of information to get here. I don’t have my visa yet but I’ll update often! Now, moving on to a totally unrelated topic, this is my 100th post! :)
NOTES & UPDATE: I just came back from a very easy application submission. My schedule was for 9:40am and I was there 9:30am as the website suggested. You have to reschedule if you’re more than 20 minutes late. Total wait time is about 2 hours but once my number is called, it took less than 5 minutes for them to check my documents and then another 5 minutes for them to take my biometric data.
Like I said I was there for 2 hours with about 80 people ahead of me. I saw a lot of people being sent back and forth to rearrange their document, or having to fill up more forms, or worse, being asked to come back. Here are few notes to guarantee you out in a jiffy!
- No need to submit photocopy your application form and passports. They’ll ask you to take it out. Save trees too!
- Paste the photo on to the application form. Not stapled, not taped, but pasted.
- Print copy of the supporting document checklist and check (tick) those supporting document that you’re submitting. Some people didn’t, so they have to fill this up when there.
- Arrange document in the order presented on the checklist.
- Bring original supporting documents and have a photocopy of them. I don’t know how many people had to go out and have their document photocopied. Note that you will leave with them ALL your original document (land title, lease document, business registration, bank statements, financial statement, etc.) to be returned with your visa.
- You can only go in with your documents placed in an envelope. Bags and phones will have to be left at their package counter (at the guard). So much more consideration than the US Embassy.

Hi Ms Analyn.. ;)
Mam, can i ask some help from you regarding for the requirements for a General Visa?
Heres my email po
Cresel1205@yahoo.com.ph
Pls. Hope to hear back from you ;)
hello sorry for the delayed,,i just came back from UK.will email u soon..
Hi Ms Ai, I am a Filipina leaving in the UK, My husband and I would like my sister and her 3 boys (9,12 & 14 yrs old) for a short holiday. And would like them to visit us in the UK during the school summer holidays in the Philippines. We will pay all their travel expenses, visa fees etc… and they will be staying with me.
My question are:-
1. Supporting documents – Is it possible to just provide photocopy ( scanned and email it )
I will provide:- Invitation Letter, British Passports, 6mths Bank/payslips statement, Utility Bills, Property ownership.
2. Can she submit the application including her 3 boys in one envelope. Since I will be providing the same supporting documents.
3. Can my sister book an appointment herself and just bring her 3 boys as they are underage.
Thank you and hope you can answer my queries!
Hiya!
1) Prints off/scanned copies from email are fine.
2) Yes. Admin folks will remove the documents from the envelope anyway when they’re called plus Consulate are into green. Less paper, the better?
There should be a question somewhere on the application where they ask if she’s travelling alone or with company. Supporting documents should then cover everybody.
3) Yes ask her to book their appointment and bring the boys when submitting the docs for biometrics.
Hope that helps. X

Hi Everyone,
Im planning to apply a UK visa soon probably this November. My boyfriend will sponsor me and I have requested him to prepare an invitation letter, copy of his passports, land title, owenership of his flat, p60,payslips and bank statements. I my self also have prepared all documents i need my COE , my business permitm mayor’s permit , ITR, bank certificate and bank statements.
Here are my questions:
1. Is it okay if all documents coming from him are scanned and sent to email?
2. Does he need to provide the Sponsorship undertaking: form SU07? and who is going to sign the second page of it which states:
Signed by__________________being a person authorized to
make this certificate on behalf of the Secretary of State.
3. My contract ends this year (december) so i will be unemployed but I still have a business which is apartment for rent I have the Business permit, DTI certificate and Mayor’s permit but land title is named for my mother. Do you think this will suffice?
4. I will be indicating that I will be staying with my boyfriend for 3 months, do you think I will be granted? Knowing that i will be employed? I have sufficient savings tho on my bank accounts.
5. Would it be possible if i indicate on application I will just be staying for 1 month but in reality I will be staying for 3 or 4 months? how’s that possible? Do you think I will have trouble with immigration and for my next application of visa?
6. Do you think I will be granted UK visa? I will be sponsored but I will be out of job soon.
Thanks
Hope you can answer my queries :)
Hi Maison,
Answers below.
1) yes, totally fine.
2) No need. A simple letter of invitation is enough.
3) 6 months payslip, Certificate of Employment and your business permit are really helpful.
4) I suggest you make it shorter. 4-6weeks maybe.
5) You will be ask for sure by the Immigration why the sudden changed (1month to 3months) but just say, you have changed your mind and anyway, you are granted 6months visa.
6) Make sure you have a strong ties in Phils (properties, families, business’s to go back to). Pretty sure you will be granted a visa.
Hope that helps.

No.5 question wether you stay 1 month or 3 months you need to buy returned ticket back to philippines.. if you book ticket single trip to UK they might hold you and question you in immigration entry clearance in the UK..
Hi, Ms Ai! I just want to ask some questions. I’m planning on applying for a tourist visa so I can scout for schools in the UK but at the same time visit my bestfriend who lives there. My best friend is a permanent resident and she would shoulder everything once I get there. I’m 22 years old and I don’t have a job ‘cos I’m still studying, I’m a bit worried about the part where I have to provide a bank statement, My family recently moved back to Philippines from Singapore and we don’t have any bank savings or properties under our name. I’m just wondering if bank statements from my friend (who will sponsor my whole stay) would be a good alternative if I don’t have one? I grew up in Brunei (Stayed there for 10 years) and I’ve been to different countries in Asia but it’s the first time I’m applying for something a bit far. Haha. Help? I don’t know where to start. I just really want this to work because I want to pursue my studies there.
Hi, your own bank statements are one of the requirements. How about a bank statement from where you were? They would need the last 6 months statements. You got to make sure you have utility bills under your name as well. You can always provide your friends/sponsor statements but frankly to say, it won’t be enough.

Hi Ai,
My visa application was refused last month. The ECO’s reason for refusing my visa was
“…You state that you will be paying costs of trip yourself (this means that I will be paying for the Air fare) and have submitted a bank statement in you name. However this does not evidence your salary or stated income and I am not satisfied that your are employed or receiving income as claimed.
I light of the above I am not satisfied that your circumstances are as you have indicated, nor on your intentions in wishing to travel to the United Kingdom now. I am not satisfied that you are genuinely seeking entry as a visitor for a limited period as stated by you, not exceeding 6 months, or that you intend to leave the United Kingdom at the end of the period of your proposed visit.”
I’m quite confused because I will be supported by my aunt in the UK. I submitted a copy of her passport, invitation letter, bank statements, and her certificate of naturalisation.
On my part I submitted my COE, payslips, and bank statement.
One of the main reason why my application was refused is that my employer did not mention on the COE that I am allowed a paid/unpaid leave (my bad). Also, My contract will end on December so I will be unemployed but I believe that I have sufficient amount in my bank account.
What confuses me the most is that I stated my Aunt will supporting me (food, accommodations and all) and I have submitted the necessary documents on my part (COE, payslips and bank statement) but still the ECO states “You state that you will be paying costs of trip yourself and have submitted a bank statement in you name. However this does not evidence your salary or stated income and I am not satisfied that your are employed or receiving income as claimed.” I was like “huh??” What proofs do I need to send to convince them that I am employed and receiving income if my payslips and COE is not enough?
I also want to ask what documents do I need to submit to prove that I have strong ties here in the Philippines and that I will be coming back on the specified time. I’m really confused right now, and really sad because all I want to do is to celebrate my birthday on the Warner Bros Studios in London coz I’m a big HARRY POTTER FAN.
Hope you can help me on this matter. Your suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi Jhen, sorry to hear that. You can always make an appeal. Maybe they just overlooked the documents you have submitted to them? But I think it’s a long process for making an appeal. Might be better to just reapply again? Costly I know. Not sure about this really. Sorry.
Strong ties can be, properties under your name, business, work waiting for you and etc.
hope it helps.

hello, can I ask why were you refused? Was there an explanation?
Hi Sel,
Yes, I plan to re apply maybe next year. how about you?
May I ask what’s the ECO’s reason for the refusal?

I think the ECO noticed some discrepancies in your bank account versus your payslips.

I would like to know if i am anble to get visa even if im not using my husband surname at the monent? My husband is british citizen and we have a daughter and he wanted us to visit in UK..
I am a little bit confuse because my passport is so complicated.. I am still using my previous husband surename which is im legally divorce with him.. I have a divorce letter as a proft. But the problem is in my passport im still using his surename not my present husband surname..
Im a little bit worried.. Please advice
Thank u
Hi Olive,
It might be just easier to get your family name change to your present husband for less confusion. Otherwise you have to explain everything and that doesn’t make sense at all.
I bet you can get it change within 15days or maximum a month.
Follow me on Instagram, @latexcorsetph if you want to get hold of me.
