UK Visa for Philippine Passport Holders
It was a week ago that I revealed my RTW plans and the beginning of my quest for visas.  Every Filipino who have experienced applying visas to Japan, US and Europe (Schengen, UK) can relate to this agony.  I went through both before but it doesn’t get easier. Since I’m going through the whole process again, I thought I’d make an outline to give future Filipino applicants a starting point. Digging through pages and pages of requirements can truly cause nausea, no kidding. So here you go, a blow by blow account on how to apply for UK Visa for Philippine Passport Holders.
UK VISA
The United Kingdom (UK) is composed of the following 4 countries: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales.  As a Filipino passport holder, let it be a default to assume we needed visa to travel anywhere outside Southeast Asia. UK is no exception. There are several visa types but I’ll be focusing on Tourist Visa.  UK visa is applied through official partner VFS Global.
My focus will only be the application of UK Visa For Philippine Passport holders applying for TOURIST VISA. If you’re studying, working, marrying, or visiting family, I’m sure there’s a whole other bunch of stuff you need to prepare. I can’t help you with it, sorry.
Restrictions in visiting UK as a tourist:
- Visit to UK cannot be for more than six (6) months;
- Leave the UK at the end of your visit;
- Have enough money to support yourself during your stay in the UK without working or needing help from public funds.
- Will not take paid or unpaid employment.
- Will not marry or register a civil partnership, or give notice of marriage or civil partnership.
- Will not get private medical treatment.
When to Apply for UK Visa?
As with most countries, UK visa can be applied maximum of 3 months before intended entry.
Where to Apply for UK Visa?
There are 2 parts in UK Visa Application: (1) Online Application  (2) Appointment to submit biometric and supporting documents.
You’ll need to have in hand your passport, UK address (hotel booking or friend’s address), email address and begin your  online visa application.  You’ll need to go through the following:
- register for an account
- fill in the application form in English
- pay for the visa fee online (in most cases)
- print out your form
- book and attend an appointment at a visa application centre
You also need to:
- have all the supporting documents you need for your visa
- translate any supporting documents and include them with the originals if they aren’t in English
What to bring to the Appointment?
- A printed and signed copy of your online visa application form
- Your current valid passport  Note: The UK Border Agency will retain your passport until they have reached a decision on your visa application. Bear in mind if you have travel plans before going to UK.
- Previous passports
- Original supporting documents, with photocopies and translations
- Printed copy of the supporting document checklist
- Payment or proof of payment of visa application fee.
- 1 recent photograph (not more than 6 months old) according to below specification.
Photograph Strict Specification
- Taken against a light grey or cream background;
- Clear and of good quality;
- Printed on normal photographic paper;
- 45 mm high x 35 mm wide in size
- Taken with nothing covering the face, without sunglasses or tinted spectacles, or a head covering unless worn for religious or medical reasons. The subject should have their mouth closed (no grinning, frowning or raised eyebrows) and the applicant should be facing forwarding, looking straight ahead.
What are supporting documents?
Simply put, these are documents that show evidence that you have ties in the Philippines and that you are coming back–job, family ties, properties, etc.
Also documents that shows you are capable of supporting yourself while in UK without the need to find employment–Bank statements, certificates, employment payslip, credit cards, etc.
You also need to submit details of accommodation plans and trip itinerary. However, please don’t pay for your accommodation until visa is issued.
All these should be submitted during the appointment. No further documents will be accepted after. Now, while the absence of these documents may result in unsuccessful visa application, submission does not guarantee visa issuance. More info on UK Visa Supporting Document
If you’re not paying for your own way, or have friend(s) in UK who will support you, you should present them with the following documents:
- Valid Citizen/Residence ID or Passport
- Bank Statement
- Address and contact details
- Invitation letter stating their support
How much is UK Visa for Philippine Passport Holders? Where to pay for UK Visa? (Updated 2-Sept-2014)
Tourist Visa {short term up to 6 months} costs £83 to apply.
Since December 17, 2012, visa fee can only be made online. It will form as part of the online application process. When all items are filled up, you will be directed to the website of WorldPay where you have the choice to pay with Visa or Mastercard. Â They no longer accept payment in person like I did before.
Waiting for Result
If there are no further delays (lacking or unverifiable document), you should have result in approximately 4-5 working days. Track your application through the free Application Status Tool.  You can collect documents personally or have the option to have it delivered to your home by paying Php 450. You also get an SMS saying it’s on its way.
Update: So lesson learned, if you are planning to visit in summer, you have to apply earlier. March and April is really hectic. I received mine in 15 days. This is also because of the Royal Wedding coming up on April 29, 2011.

UK Visa for Filipino Passport Holders kicks off the Visa for Pinoy Series I’m starting in this blog. Here’s hoping it will be a good starting point in your application. I had to go through labyrinth of information to get here.  I don’t have my visa yet but I’ll update often!  Now, moving on to a totally unrelated topic, this is my 100th post! :)
NOTES & UPDATE: I just came back from a very easy application submission. My schedule was for 9:40am and I was there 9:30am as the website suggested.  You have to reschedule if you’re more than 20 minutes late. Total wait time is about 2 hours but once my number is called, it took less than 5 minutes for them to check my documents and then another 5 minutes for them to take my biometric data.
Like I said I was there for 2 hours with about 80 people ahead of me. I saw a lot of people being sent back and forth to rearrange their document, or having to fill up more forms, or worse, being asked to come back. Here are few notes to guarantee you out in a jiffy!
- No need to submit photocopy your application form and passports. They’ll ask you to take it out. Save trees too!
- Paste the photo on to the application form. Not stapled, not taped, but pasted.
- Print copy of the supporting document checklist and check (tick) those supporting document that you’re submitting.  Some people didn’t, so they have to fill this up when there.
- Arrange document in the order presented on the checklist.
- Bring original supporting documents and have a photocopy of them.  I don’t know how many people had to go out and have their document photocopied. Note that you will leave with them ALL your original document (land title, lease document, business registration, bank statements, financial statement, etc.) to be returned with your visa.
- You can only go in with your documents placed in an envelope. Bags and phones will have to be left at their package counter (at the guard). Â So much more consideration than the US Embassy.

thanks wanderlass for this reliable info…was able to get multiple entry visa for 6 months because of you….lodged the application online 10/2, submitted the docs 10/6, got the passport with visa and supporting docs 10/20 afternoon and I flew to heathrow 10/23 and stayed there till 11/9….been stressed though bout the fin docs coz I was not financially capable, however my bf was able to produce business registrations, fin docs and invitation….thanks and more power….do you have Austria visa application too?
Hi, cay1130! I will also be sponsored by my boyfriend. My question is, what evidences did you submit to prove that you and your boyfriend are in a relationship? (photos together? emails?) How long was your application processed? Hope I can get a reply asap because we are planning to submit the documents next week! Thank you and more power!
hi, no need to disclose it, his letter only said I am his friend and that we’ve met months ago….in the immigration thou they will ask you what your relation to the sponsoring person and there you should be honest….they wont ask you for pics or email details or message or conversations as far as I experienced. processing is more or less 15 days, during the submission you will be asked if you would want to fasten (priority) both during the submission online and in VFS….the only thing they were concerned, as my boyfriend said, is that I don’t have intention to live / settle there if I am getting a tourist visa….no sweat actually….just submit the documents arranged as listed….wanderlass has been detailed about it….there is not even an interview….idk about the 2nd visa thou, we’ll see…any ideas @wanderlass?
Hello cay1130, I am also planning to visit UK by Summer 2016, my botfriend will sponsor my expenses, I would like to know if you also provided Bank statements and how much money did you had in your account?
Hope to hear from you soon.

Hiya! Austria is part of Schengen. I guess any of those Europe cities that Wanderlass has posted before would be a great help!

Ai
hi Ms. Cay, thanks for your post. I have a question po sana. under what category did you apply? general visitor visa po ba ? I am planning to.apply for a visitor visa kc to visit my bf and his family. thanks
on what day does my visa start when i arrive in phillipines is it day of arrival or the next day thank you patrick
Hey Patrick,
Did you get some answers yet?
Totally be honest with you, I didn’t know as well!? Would be nice to know from our fellow travellers if they know this.
I Was in UK last year and earlier this year bearing a 6month multiple visa. On my 2nd trip, I just left UK 2days before my visa expires.
In other countries like UAE, they give you a tourist visa (1-3month) and they start counting after you get in to UAE. So totally basing it from your date of entry.
Not sure if UK is the same? Prolly not?
Anyone know about this?
Ai
Okay am totally stupid. Thought you were asking about uK visa. Lol. My fault.
But to answer your question, day of arrival. They give you now 30days. And you can extend it for couple of months if you want to. Just go to nearest Bureau of Immigration, one in Makati and in Intramuros. Hope that helps.?
Ai

Hi!
My boyfriend is Filipino with Spanish citizenship living in the UK and he’s sponsoring me for a general visit visa. The UK visa site says every single document I provide must be original. Does that include my boyfriend’s passport? I don’t think he has a residence ID din since Spain is part of the EU and I heard they have special privileges in England. When I asked him about it, he wasn’t sure din if he has one. Haha! Anyway, he’s in England now. Is it safe to say that I can’t apply for a visa unless he comes home here sa Pinas?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Hi Gaiana! I have the same case as yours, my bf (filipino) who’s in London will be sponsoring my trip, I just provided them a printed copy of my bf’s visa and passport.
Where did you apply, Reg? Manila, or Cebu? Thanks for replying ?

What’s an ITR? Teehee ?
Hi Gaiana,

Good day ma’am! I am college student, and my parents will be going to UK for business purposes at the end of October. Sembreak is coming, and my mom wants me to visit UK as my break for two-three weeks. I have concerns regarding applying for UK visa and traveling to UK. I would like to know if the documents that you stated are also required for under-ages (I’m 17 years old), like the bank statement (since my parents will be sponsoring me) or is the certification of enrollment be necessary? And what are the specific supporting documents? Will there be an interview during the appointment or just submitting of documents? Is it approved if they take your application and biometric? What is the minimum week/s or month/s for visiting UK? What are the possible questions to be asked in the interview and in the airport? And what kind of visa should I apply for? I’m thinking the standard visa for tourists, but I’m not sure. I’m also currently registering the online application form, what is the primary phone number and the secondary phone number? Sorry for asking too many questions. :)
My sembreak would be starting at November 13, and my parents keeps pushing me to book an appointment because they said the process of approving the visa might take long. And it’s almost the end of October, is it too late to book an apoointment? :)
I hope you can read this, and reply. :) Thank you in advance for your help. :)
*Supporting documents for students or under-age? Or same documents for standard visa? Tourist visa?
minors should be attached to parent’s or guardian’s application.
you should start applying.
HI wanderlass,
I have not completed my online application yet because I still have to know some other things before i proceed, If i present bank statement, will it matter if peso or dollar account? If I plan to visit London, how much money should they expect in my account? My british bf will shoulder everything, my accommodations and ticket. Would i still present my bank statement or his bank statement? What would be the important information should he put in his invitation letter and will they honor it if just sent using email and not using post office.
hi miss ai
just wanna ask if i can get the visa within 2 to 5 working days only even though ill pay for it ?
Hi John, normally 15 working days but for me I got it for 9 days.
Hi, can you please provide the email address or phone number of VFS for uk. I paid for my documents to be delivered to my house through their courier service but until now I havent received it yet. They sent me a message saying that they got the docs from uk embassy on 15th October and that’s it. They haven’t updated me about it since then. I can’t seem to find any phone number nor an email address for VFS-uk. I woild appreciate it if anyone can provide me an email address wherein an actual person from vfs would respond.
Hi John,
I believe Express application takes a week. But you can only apply for it if you have travelled to Europe before, otherwise, you stick to regular processing which takes normally 12-15days or longer.
Thanks,
Ai
